Official bank nisab by year
Each year the government notifies a nisab for compulsory zakat deduction by banks. No zakat is deducted from an account whose balance on the deduction day is below it.

The 2026 figure is about 2.8 times the 2025 figure, a rise of Rs 323,840. News reports linked the jump to the rise in gold and silver prices. The notices themselves do not state how the figure was worked out. The nisab for Ramadan 2027 had not been announced as of late September 2026.
Gold and silver nisab in tola and grams
Pakistani scholars state the nisab weights in tola:

A tola is 11.6638 grams. Multiplying gives 87.48 g for gold. For silver, 52.5 tola works out to 612.35 g; the 612.36 g figure widely quoted by scholars comes from rounding the tola to 11.664 g. The difference is too small to matter. Use the tola to gram converter for other weights.
Nisab in rupees at 28 September 2026 rates

In grams, that is roughly Rs 564 per gram of silver and Rs 37,564 per gram of gold. Prices change every day, so check the day's rate before you pay. Your zakat is due on wealth held on the date your own zakat year completes, at that day's value.
Why the bank nisab differs from today's silver nisab
The bank nisab is a fixed figure set once a year, a few weeks before Ramadan. The silver nisab in rupees moves with the market. Silver was reported at about Rs 10,500 per tola around the 2026 notification; by 28 September 2026 it was Rs 6,578. So today's silver nisab, Rs 345,345, is well below the Rs 503,529 bank figure.
The two serve different purposes. The bank figure only decides whether a bank deducts zakat from a particular account on 1 Ramadan. Your personal liability depends on all your zakatable wealth, measured against nisab on your own zakat date. You can owe zakat even if no bank ever deducted any, for example if your savings are in a current account or held as gold.
Which nisab applies to you
- Mixed wealth (cash, savings, gold, stock): Hanafi scholars use the silver nisab. This is the case for most people.
- Only gold, with no cash or other zakatable assets: the gold nisab of 7.5 tola applies.
- Only silver: the silver nisab of 52.5 tola applies.

7.5 tola, which is 87.48 grams. The silver nisab is 52.5 tola, commonly given as 612.36 grams. If your only zakatable wealth is gold, the gold nisab applies. With any cash or savings as well, Hanafi scholars use the silver nisab.
Will my bank deduct zakat if my balance is below Rs 503,529?
No. For Ramadan 2026 there was no compulsory deduction where the balance in a savings, PLS or similar account on 1 Ramadan was below Rs 503,529. Current accounts are not subject to deduction at any balance. You may still owe zakat on your total wealth.
