At UAF, your GPA is total quality points divided by total credit hours. Each course is marked out of 20 × its credit hours, so a 3 credit hour course is out of 60, and your quality points depend on the percentage of that total you score.

How UAF grading works
UAF does not use a fixed grade point for each letter. Quality points rise with every mark, following this rule for percentage p of the course total:

Course quality points are these grade points × credit hours. The course total is 20 marks per credit hour: 20 for 1 credit hour, 40 for 2, 60 for 3, 80 for 4 and 100 for 5.

Letter grades at UAF are A from 80%, B from 65%, C from 50%, D from 40%, and F below 40%. Passing a course needs 40%.

From 48 marks upwards, extra marks add nothing, because 12 is the maximum for 3 credit hours. Between 30 and 48 each mark is worth about a third of a quality point.

GPA = 45.00 ÷ 13 = 3.46.
Course 3 shows the formula at work: 72.5% gives 2 + (72.5 − 50) ÷ 15 = 3.50 per credit hour, and 3.50 × 4 = 14.00 quality points.

The rule above is the one used by UAF's LMS calculators and the widely used open-source UAF calculator. We checked its full table for 1 to 5 credit hour courses and every entry matches the formula. Questions people ask
How do I calculate CGPA in UAF?
Add the quality points of every course you have taken and divide by the total credit hours. Quality points come from your marks as a percentage of 20 × credit hours. For a quick update, multiply your current CGPA by the credit hours so far, add this semester's quality points, and divide by the new total.
How many marks do I need for full quality points in a 3 credit hour course?
You need 48 out of 60, which is 80%. That gives 12 quality points, the maximum for 3 credit hours. Below 80% the points fall gradually: 39 marks gives 9.00 and 31 gives 6.33. Below 24 marks (40%) the course is an F and earns no quality points.
Is this the same as the LMS UAF CGPA calculator?
It uses the same quality point rule as UAF's LMS calculators: 20 marks per credit hour, 4.00 at 80%, then the sliding formulas down to 40%. Enter the obtained marks shown on your LMS result. If the LMS shows a different figure for any course, the LMS figure is the one on your record.
What is the passing percentage at UAF?
A course is passed at 40% of its total, which is grade D. For a 3 credit hour course that is 24 out of 60, earning 3.00 quality points. Anything below 40% is F with zero quality points, though the credit hours still count in the GPA until the course is cleared.
How do I convert my UAF CGPA into percentage?
No official UAF conversion was found. Many students use CGPA ÷ 4 × 100, but that is not a UAF or HEC rule. HEC's equivalence table gives a percentage band for each CGPA band. See the CGPA to percentage calculator and follow any rule stated on your UAF transcript.
