IBCC turns each O or A level grade into fixed Pakistani marks out of 100: A is 85, B 75, C 65, D 55 and E 45. An A* is worth more than 90, and the exact figure depends on the subject and the year you sat it, for example 94 for O level Mathematics in 2026 and 95 for A level Physics. The marks are then added and scaled. In IBCC's published examples, 8 O level subjects give your Matric (SSC) equivalence, and those 8 plus 3 A level subjects, out of 1100, give your FSc (HSSC) equivalence.

Grades F, G and U, and numeric grade 1, are not accepted for equivalence. IGCSE numeric grades have their own scale, so an 8 is 87 and a 4 is 60.

English, Urdu, Pakistan Studies and Islamiyat are marked NA at A level, since they are counted at O level. Any A level subject not listed takes the other elective figure.
How IBCC calculates equivalence
IBCC's own worked examples show the method.
O level to Matric. Eight subjects for students who sat in Pakistan: English, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies, Mathematics and three electives. In IBCC's example every grade is A*, giving 750 out of 800. IBCC then scales this: 750 ÷ 800 × 900 = 844 out of 900. Students who sat abroad need five subjects (English, Mathematics and three electives).
A level to FSc. The 8 O level subjects and 3 A level subjects are added, 100 marks each, so the total is out of 1100. IBCC's example totals 1030, which is 1030 out of 1100. For students abroad, 5 O level and 3 A level subjects give a total out of 800, scaled to 1100: 750 ÷ 800 × 1100 = 1031.
So your A level equivalence includes your O level marks. A weak O level result pulls down your FSc equivalence too. See the O level and A level pages for worked examples.
Applying to IBCC
IBCC's FAQs list these charges per certificate: Rs 4,000 for local qualifications, Rs 6,000 for foreign qualifications and Rs 12,000 for an urgent O or A level certificate. Processing takes 15 to 20 working days. Apply for your O level equivalence first; universities ask for both.
Most admissions use the IBCC figure in place of Matric and FSc marks. MDCAT merit, for example, gives 10% weight to SSC and 40% to HSSC, so your equivalence goes straight into the MDCAT aggregate.
What we could not read. IBCC issued a notice on 18 February 2026 about calculating A level equivalence based on the compulsory O level subjects, and an Equivalence Grading 2026 notice on 28 July 2026. Both are scanned images that we could not read in full. The subject-wise 2026 A* tables used here were read from IBCC's own PDF files. Treat every figure here as an estimate: the marks on your IBCC certificate are the final word.
Questions people ask
How many marks does IBCC give for an A* grade?
From the 2021 session onwards, A* is above 90 and IBCC fixes the figure per subject each year. For 2026 O level it is 94 for most subjects and 93 for English and Urdu. For 2026 A level it is 95 for Physics, 93 for Computer Studies and 94 for most others.
Why do some calculators show a different equivalence?
Many calculators count every A* as 90 and scale to 1050 or 1100 without saying why. IBCC's A* figure is higher and changes by session, so those calculators undercount strong students. This calculator uses IBCC's session tables and its own worked examples.
Is the O level equivalence out of 900 or 1100?
IBCC's O level example PDF scales to 900 (750 out of 800 becomes 844 out of 900). The web copy of the same example writes 1100 but still shows 844, which only fits 900. The percentage, 93.75% in that example, is identical either way, and admissions use the percentage.
Does IBCC accept grade U or E?
E is accepted and counts as 45 marks. F, G and U are not applicable for IBCC equivalence, and IBCC requires at least an E in the three A level subjects for your group. If you have a U, you will need to resit that subject or replace it with another.
Can I use IGCSE numeric grades (9 to 1)?
Yes. IBCC converts 9 as above 90 (like A*), 8 as 87, 7 as 82, 6 as 77, 5 as 70, 4 as 60, 3 as 50 and 2 as 40. Grade 1 is not accepted. Pick the numeric grade in the calculator's grade list.
