In IBCC's published worked example, A level (HSSC) equivalence is not calculated from A levels alone. It adds your 8 O level subjects and your 3 A level subjects, each converted to marks out of 100, for a total out of 1100. On that method, O level marks of 696 plus A level grades A, B, A (85 + 75 + 85 = 245) give 941 out of 1100, or 85.55%.

Enter your O level grades first, then your three A level subjects. Set the session for each subject, since IBCC's A* figure changes by year: an A* in A level Physics was worth 95 in 2026. IBCC's 18 February 2026 notice on this calculation could not be read, so confirm your figure with IBCC.

Worked example: FSc equivalence for a pre-medical student

O level (sat 2024): English A 85, Urdu A* 93, Islamiyat A* 94, Pakistan Studies A 85, Mathematics A* 94, Physics A 85, Chemistry B 75, Biology A 85. O level total: 696.

A level (sat 2026): Physics A 85, Chemistry B 75, Biology A 85. A level total: 245.

HSSC equivalence = 696 + 245 = 941 out of 1100, which is 85.55%.

IBCC's own example, with A* in every subject, reaches 1030 out of 1100. With 2026 A* figures in all 11 subjects the total would be 750 + 283 = 1033.

Students who sat abroad

Overseas students count 5 O level subjects (English, Mathematics and three electives) plus 3 A level subjects, a total out of 800. IBCC scales that to 1100. In IBCC's example, 750 out of 800 becomes 750 ÷ 800 × 1100 = 1031 out of 1100. Switch the calculator to exams taken abroad to use this route.

For grades below A*, the marks are fixed: A 85, B 75, C 65, D 55 and E 45. IBCC needs three relevant A level subjects for your group, each at E or above.

How admissions use your A level equivalence

MDCAT (MBBS and BDS). Merit gives 50% to the MDCAT score, 40% to HSSC and 10% to SSC. O and A level students use their IBCC percentages in place of FSc and Matric. With MDCAT 160 out of 180, HSSC equivalence 85.55% and SSC equivalence 87.00%, the aggregate is 160 ÷ 180 × 50 + 85.55 × 0.4 + 87.00 × 0.1 = 87.36%. NUST. Merit is NET 75%, SSC or O level 10% and HSSC or A level 15%. A level students still in their final year are ranked on NET 75% plus 25% for their O level IBCC equivalence. See the NUST aggregate calculator.

AS level and results still awaited. IBCC's HSSC equivalence needs three full A level subjects. If your A2 results are not out, universities use a different figure, such as your O level equivalence at NUST or 11th class IBCC marks at UET. IBCC also issued a notice on 18 February 2026 about A level equivalence based on compulsory O level subjects; it is a scanned image we could not read, so check it with IBCC before relying on this estimate.

Questions people ask

Is A level equivalence calculated only from A level grades?

Not in IBCC's published worked example. There, the marks of 8 O level subjects and 3 A level subjects, 100 marks each, are added for a total out of 1100, so O level grades make up more than two thirds of the figure. Students abroad count 5 O level and 3 A level subjects, scaled to 1100. IBCC's February 2026 notice on this could not be read, so check your certificate.

How many marks is an A* at A level?

It depends on the subject and session. For 2026, IBCC gives 95 for Physics, 94 for Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and other electives, and 93 for Computer Studies. In 2024, Mathematics was 95. Before 2021, A* was not given a subject-wise figure.

What is the A level equivalence of AAA?

Three A grades give 255 A level marks. The total depends on your O level marks: with 696 from O level, the equivalence is 951 out of 1100 (86.45%). With 8 O level A grades (680), it is 935 out of 1100 (85.00%).

Can I use AS level grades for equivalence?

IBCC's HSSC equivalence requires three A level subjects with at least an E. AS results alone do not complete it. Some universities admit A level students before final results on other figures, such as O level equivalence at NUST or 11th class IBCC marks at UET.

Which A level subjects do I need for pre-medical or pre-engineering?

IBCC asks for three relevant A level subjects for the group you want. Pre-medical students usually take Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and pre-engineering students Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Check the subject list for your group with IBCC before applying.
