Under the HEC equivalence table, a CGPA of 3.00 falls in the B band, which is 71 to 74 percent. A CGPA of 3.50 falls in the A- band, 80 to 84 percent, and 2.50 falls in B-, 68 to 70 percent.
HEC's table gives a percentage band, not one exact number. The popular CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 method is shown for comparison, but it is not an HEC rule. If your university prints its own conversion on the transcript, that figure is the one to use.
HEC CGPA to percentage table
HEC's 2015 examination policy (section 13.1) recommends this equivalence between grade point bands and percentage bands.

Find the row your CGPA falls in and read the percentage band. The calculator also gives a straight-line position inside the band. For 3.20 that is 77.4%, inside the B+ band of 75 to 79. This in-between figure is our estimate, not part of the HEC table.
Why CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 gives the wrong answer
The simple method treats 4.00 as 100% and 0 as 0%. Pakistani grading does not work that way, because anything below 50 marks is F. So the simple method pushes low CGPAs too low and high CGPAs too high.

At 2.00, the simple method says 50%, which sits at the fail line. The HEC table puts 2.00 at 61 to 63%. At 3.50 the simple method says 87.5%, above the HEC band of 80 to 84.
Worked example: CGPA 3.00
- Find the row: 3.00 sits in 2.67 to 3.00, grade B.
- Read the percentage band: 71 to 74%.
- Position in band: 3.00 is the top of the B range, so the straight-line figure is 74%.
- For comparison, 3.00 ÷ 4 × 100 = 75%.
For a form that asks for one number, write what your university states. If it states nothing, the HEC band is the safer figure to explain.
Universities with their own conversion: MUET
Some universities print their own figure. Mehran University (MUET) publishes a table that its transcripts use:

No. HEC has not set CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 as a conversion rule. Its 2015 examination policy recommends an equivalence table in which each CGPA band maps to a percentage band. Some universities, such as MUET and QAU, publish their own conversions. Where your university has a rule, that rule applies.
How do I convert percentage to CGPA?
Read the HEC table the other way. For 72% overall, find the 71 to 74 row: grade B, CGPA 2.67 to 3.00. This only gives a band. To get an exact CGPA you need your course grades and credit hours, which the CGPA calculator can combine.
