Look at 60%: the HEC table puts it in C- (1.31 to 1.66), yet percentage ÷ 25 gives 2.40. At 85% the order flips: HEC says 3.67 or more, while ÷ 25 gives only 3.40. The two methods agree only near 75% and at 100%.
How to calculate CGPA from percentage
Method 1: HEC equivalence band
- Find the percentage band your score falls in (see the table below).
- Read the CGPA range for that band.
- For a single figure, place your percentage in proportion inside the band.
Example: 78%. It sits in the 75 to 79 band, grade B+, CGPA 3.01 to 3.33. It is 3 marks into a 4 mark wide band, so the estimate is 3.01 + (3.33 − 3.01) × 3 ÷ 4 = 3.25.
Method 2: percentage ÷ 25
CGPA = percentage ÷ 100 × 4, which is the same as dividing by 25. For 78%, that is 78 ÷ 25 = 3.12. It is quick, but no university or HEC rule uses it. It treats 0% as a CGPA of 0, while Pakistani grading makes everything under 50% an F.

Your university's table comes first. Most universities give each course a grade point from its own marks table, and those tables differ. What is 80 percent in CGPA?
Under the HEC table, 80% is the bottom of the A- band, which runs from 3.34 to 3.66. So 80% is about 3.34. The quick percentage ÷ 25 method gives 3.20. Many universities also treat 80 marks as A-, with points of 3.66 or 3.70 depending on the university.
What is 75 percent in GPA out of 4?
75% is the start of the HEC B+ band, 3.01 to 3.33, so it is about 3.01. Percentage ÷ 25 gives exactly 3.00, so here the two methods nearly agree. Check your university's own grading table if you need the figure for a specific course.
What is 70 percent in CGPA?
70% is the top of the HEC B- band (68 to 70), which is 2.34 to 2.66, so about 2.66. Percentage ÷ 25 gives 2.80. At universities such as Punjab University, 70 marks is already a B at 3.00, which shows why the university's own table matters.
Is there an official formula to convert percentage to CGPA?
There is no single national formula. HEC's examination policy gives equivalent bands, which is the closest thing to an official rule. Universities apply their own marks to grade point tables course by course. The percentage ÷ 25 method is a shortcut, not a rule.
How do I convert CGPA back to percentage?
Use the same HEC table in the other direction: find your CGPA range and read the percentage band. A CGPA of 3.00 falls in the B band, 71 to 74%. The CGPA to percentage calculator does this and shows the CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 figure too.
