How to calculate percentage of marks
Percentage = marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100
For several subjects (6 subjects example)
- Add the marks you obtained in all subjects: 78 + 85 + 66 + 91 + 72 + 80 = 472.
- Add the total marks of all subjects: 6 × 100 = 600.
- Divide and multiply by 100: 472 ÷ 600 × 100 = 78.67%.
On a phone calculator, type 472 ÷ 600 and then × 100, or type 472 ÷ 600 % on calculators that have a percent key.
For a whole result card
Use the grand total printed on the card. Many matric and intermediate result cards in Pakistan are out of 1100:

Do not average the subject percentages
When subjects have different totals, averaging their percentages gives the wrong answer. Suppose you scored 45 out of 50 (90%) and 60 out of 100 (60%).
- Wrong: (90 + 60) ÷ 2 = 75%
- Right: (45 + 60) ÷ (50 + 100) × 100 = 70%
The 100 mark subject carries twice the weight of the 50 mark subject, so it pulls the result down more. The calculator always adds marks first, which is how boards and universities work out a result.
Marks needed for a target percentage
Multiply the target percentage by the total marks and divide by 100, then subtract what you already have. For 80% of 600: 80 × 600 ÷ 100 = 480, and 480 − 472 = 8 more marks. The calculator rounds the needed marks up to a whole number, since you cannot score part of a mark on most papers.
For admissions, your marks percentage usually feeds into a weighted aggregate. The aggregate calculator applies each university's weights, and percentage to CGPA converts the result to a 4.00 scale.

How do I calculate the percentage of marks of 6 subjects?
Add the obtained marks of all 6 subjects, add their total marks, then divide the first by the second and multiply by 100. With 472 out of 600, the percentage is 78.67%. If every subject is out of 100, the total is simply 600.
How do I calculate my matric percentage?
Divide the total marks obtained on your result card by the grand total and multiply by 100. For 950 out of 1100, the matric percentage is 950 ÷ 1100 × 100 = 86.36%. Use the grand total your board prints, since it can differ between boards and years.
Can I add percentages of different subjects and divide by the number of subjects?
Only if every subject has the same total marks. When totals differ, that shortcut is wrong. For 45/50 and 60/100 it gives 75%, but the true figure is 105 out of 150, which is 70%. Always add marks first.
