Attendance percentage is classes attended ÷ classes held × 100. If you attended 33 of 40 classes, your attendance is 82.5%. At a 75% minimum you can miss the next 4 classes and still be exactly at 75% (33 out of 44).

How to calculate attendance percentage
Attendance % = classes attended ÷ classes held × 100
For 33 out of 40: 33 ÷ 40 × 100 = 82.5%.
Classes you can miss and stay at the minimum
Divide the classes you attended by the minimum (as a decimal), then subtract the classes held. Round down.
33 ÷ 0.75 − 40 = 44 − 40 = 4 classes at 75%. At 80% it is 33 ÷ 0.80 − 40 = 1.25, so only 1 class.
Classes you must attend to get back to the minimum
If you are at 28 out of 40 (70%), you need x classes in a row where (28 + x) ÷ (40 + x) reaches 0.75. The formula is (0.75 × 40 − 28) ÷ (1 − 0.75) = 2 ÷ 0.25 = 8 classes. After 8 straight classes you are at 36 out of 48, exactly 75%.
Over the whole semester
If 20 more classes are due, the course will have 60 in all. At 75% you need 45 attended across the semester, so you can miss at most 15 in total. With 28 attended so far, you must attend 17 of the remaining 20.
How many classes can you miss?
Maximum absences in a whole course of a given size. Must attend is rounded up, because you cannot attend part of a class.

A course with 32 classes allows 8 absences at 75% but only 6 at 80%. Count labs separately if your university records them as a separate course.
Minimum attendance at Pakistani universities

Falling short usually means you cannot sit the final exam in that course. NUST gives XF, FAST gives F/A, UCP withdraws you with a W, and QAU makes you repeat the course. Condonation, where it exists, needs an application with proof before the final exam, not after.
Attendance is counted per course. A high average across all courses does not protect you in one course where you are short. NED is the exception in our list, allowing 65% in a course when the aggregate is 75%. Check your portal's count too: some universities mark late arrival as absent, and a 3 hour lab may count as one class or as several.

How do I calculate 75 percent attendance?
Multiply the total classes by 0.75 and round up. That is the least you must attend. For 32 classes, 32 × 0.75 = 24, so you must attend 24 and can miss 8. For 45 classes, 45 × 0.75 = 33.75, which rounds up to 34, so you can miss 11.
How many classes can I miss with 80 percent attendance?
Take 20% of the total and round down. For 32 classes, 20% is 6.4, so you can miss 6. For 48 classes you can miss 9. FAST allows at most 20% absence, condoned by the Head of Department only for genuine reasons, and QAU requires 80% too.
Can I sit the final exam with attendance below 75%?
At most universities, no. NUST gives XF with no exceptions, Bahria never condones a shortfall, and PU allows only a 5% relaxation on the HOD's recommendation. QAU lets the Chairperson relax 10% for set reasons. Apply to your department before exams if you have a medical or family reason.
How do I calculate attendance percentage in university?
For each course, divide the classes you attended by the classes held and multiply by 100. Do not average across courses, because each course is checked on its own. If your portal records attendance in contact hours, use hours in the same formula.
Does attendance affect my GPA?
It can. At NUST, a student short of attendance gets XF, which counts as 0.00 grade points, and FAST gives an F/A fail grade. A zero in one 3 credit hour course can pull a semester GPA down sharply.
