1 tola is 11.6638 grams. It is exactly 180 grains, or three eighths of a troy ounce, and it is the weight used for gold and silver in Pakistan. So 10 tola is 116.638 g, and half a tola is 5.832 g.
You will sometimes see 11.66 g, 11.664 g or even "about 11.5 g". The first two are fine for everyday use. The last one is wrong by more than a gram per 10 tola, which is a lot of money at gold prices.

Tola, masha and ratti
Jewellers still quote small weights in the old units:
- 1 tola = 12 masha = 96 ratti
- 1 masha = 8 ratti = 0.972 g
- 1 ratti = 0.1215 g
Worked example
A ring weighs 1 tola 3 masha.
- 1 tola = 11.6638 g
- 3 masha = 3 × 0.97198 = 2.9160 g
- Total: 14.5798 g

Tola and troy ounce
World gold prices are quoted per troy ounce (31.1035 g). A tola is exactly 0.375 troy ounce, so 1 troy ounce is 2.6667 tola, and 10 tola is 3.75 troy ounces.
To turn an international price per ounce into a price per tola, multiply by 0.375, then convert dollars to rupees. Local rates also include the local premium, so the result will not match the sarafa rate exactly.
Tola and zakat
The zakat nisab is set in tola: 7.5 tola of gold and 52.5 tola of silver. In grams:
- 7.5 tola of gold = 87.48 g
- 52.5 tola of silver = 612.35 g (often quoted as 612.36 g, from rounding a tola to 11.664 g)
