Worked example
A farmer sells 5 acres. In kanal and marla:
- Kanal: 5 × 8 = 40 kanal
- Marla: 40 × 20 = 800 marla
- Square feet: 5 × 43,560 = 217,800 sq ft
If a developer then cuts it into society plots on the 225 sq ft marla, the same land measures 217,800 ÷ 225 = 968 marla (48.4 kanal), before roads and parks are taken out. That is why "marla" figures jump when farmland becomes a housing scheme.
