Government employees get one annual increment on 1 December each year. It adds a fixed amount to basic pay: in BPS-2026 that is Rs 2,720 for BPS-16, Rs 4,110 for BPS-17 and Rs 1,310 for BPS-9. Because the Ad hoc Relief Allowance 2026 is 7% of running basic pay, it goes up with the increment as well.
Enter your scale and your basic pay from the latest slip. If you joined or were promoted this year, choose the second option and enter the date: you need six months at that pay by 1 December, so a date after 1 June moves the first increment to the following December.
Annual increment chart 2025 and 2026, BPS 1 to 22
The increment on 1 December 2025 was paid at the BPS-2022 rate. The increment on 1 December 2026 is paid at the BPS-2026 rate, which is higher because two relief allowances were merged into basic pay from 1 July 2026.

The monthly rise adds 7% of the increment for ARA-2026. Your own figure can differ by a rupee because the allowance is rounded on the whole basic pay. The same BPS-2026 chart is used by the federal, Punjab, Sindh and KP governments.
The rules for the 1 December increment
The Finance Division order of 21 July 2026 that brought in BPS-2026 says the annual increment continues on 1 December each year, subject to the existing conditions. Those conditions are:
- Six months at the stage. The increment accrues on 1 December after at least six months of service at the relevant stage of the scale. Someone appointed or promoted on or before 1 June has six months by 1 December. Punjab's Finance Department applies the same rule under rule 7 of the Punjab Civil Servants Pay Revision Rules 1977.
- One increment a year. The amount is the increment of your scale. It is the same at every stage.
- Beyond the maximum. Since 1 December 2005, employees who reach the top of their scale still get annual increments, paid as personal pay (Finance Division order of 13 October 2006). The 2026 order counts this personal pay as basic pay.
- Leave. Earned leave counts. Extraordinary leave does not, and an increment withheld as a penalty is not paid.
Ask your accounts office about a date in early June, a break in service or a promotion between stages.
Worked example: BPS-16 on 1 December 2026
A federal BPS-16 employee draws a basic pay of Rs 50,040, which is the minimum of Rs 33,720 plus 6 increments of Rs 2,720.
- New basic pay: Rs 50,040 + Rs 2,720 = Rs 52,760.
- ARA-2026 before: 7% of Rs 50,040 = Rs 3,503. After: 7% of Rs 52,760 = Rs 3,693. Rise: Rs 190.
- Total rise per month: Rs 2,720 + Rs 190 = Rs 2,910.
- From December 2026 to June 2027 that is 7 months, or Rs 20,370. Over a full year it is Rs 34,920.
House rent, medical and conveyance allowances stay the same. Income tax rises a little on the higher pay; run the new figure through the salary calculator to see your net pay.
Worked example: appointed in June
A BPS-17 officer joins on 10 June 2026 at the minimum of Rs 54,140. From 10 June to 1 December is less than six months, so there is no increment on 1 December 2026. The first one comes on 1 December 2027, lifting basic pay to Rs 58,250. ARA-2026 rises from Rs 3,790 to Rs 4,078, so the monthly gain is Rs 4,398.
Had the same officer joined on or before 1 June 2026, the first increment would have come on 1 December 2026. The same test applies after a promotion: the six months count from the date you took up the higher scale.
At the maximum: BPS-11 personal pay
BPS-11 has 30 increments, so its maximum is Rs 69,810. An employee already there still gets Rs 1,580 each 1 December, shown as personal pay.
| Increments above the minimum | Basic pay BPS-11 | ARA-2026 (7%) | Basic plus ARA |
|---|---|---|---|
| 28 | 66,650 | 4,666 | 71,316 |
| 29 | 68,230 | 4,776 | 73,006 |
| 30 | 69,810 | 4,887 | 74,697 |
| 31 | 71,390 personal pay 1,580 | 4,997 | 76,387 |
| 32 | 72,970 personal pay 3,160 | 5,108 | 78,078 |
Here an employee at the maximum gets Rs 1,580 in basic pay and Rs 110 in ARA-2026: Rs 1,690 a month more. Personal pay counts towards pension, as it is part of basic pay.
What else changes with the increment
- ARA-2026 is 7% of running basic pay, so it rises by about 7% of the increment.
- House rent allowance and other allowances paid as a percentage of pay are frozen at their 30 June 2026 level, so they do not move. Medical and conveyance allowances are fixed amounts.
- GP Fund subscription is a fixed rate for your scale, not a percentage, so it stays the same.
- Pension. Basic pay, including personal pay, is what pension is worked on. If you retire between 1 June and 1 December, you still get the year's increment for pension; see the pension calculator.

Annual increment questions
How do I calculate my annual increment?
Find the increment of your scale in the chart above and add it to your current basic pay. For BPS-14 it is Rs 2,090 in BPS-2026. Then take 7% of the new basic pay for ARA-2026 and compare it with the old ARA. The difference plus the increment is your monthly rise.
When is the annual increment due in 2026?
On 1 December 2026, at the BPS-2026 rate of your scale, so it first shows in the pay for December 2026. You need six months at your current stage by that date. If it is missing from your slip, ask your accounts office.
I was appointed in August. Will I get the December increment?
No. From August to 1 December is less than six months. Your first increment comes on 1 December of the next year. Anyone appointed or promoted on or before 1 June gets it in the same year.
What is the annual increment chart 2025?
The increment of 1 December 2025 was paid in BPS-2022, for example Rs 2,260 for BPS-16 and Rs 3,420 for BPS-17. Both columns are in the chart above. From 1 July 2026 your pay moved to the same stage in BPS-2026, so the 2026 increment is higher.
Do I get an increment if I am at the maximum of my scale?
Yes. Since 1 December 2005 an employee at the top of the scale still gets the annual increment, paid as personal pay, provided they have six months' service. The BPS-2026 order treats this personal pay as part of basic pay.
Is the increment the same in Punjab, Sindh and KP?
Yes, if your government has adopted BPS-2026, which Punjab, Sindh and KP did from 1 July 2026. The increment amount comes from the scale, and each of them pays ARA-2026 at 7% of basic pay. Check your slip for the scale your office uses.
