CUST generally follows relative grading, so your marks do not map to a fixed letter. What is fixed is the point value of each letter: A is 4.00, A- 3.67, B+ 3.33, down to D+ at 1.33 and D at 1.00. Pick your letter for each course and the calculator gives your GPA.
To track your CGPA, open "Add previous semesters" and enter your CGPA and credit hours so far.
How CUST grading works
The CUST Academic Regulations 2025-26 (version 2) and the UG Grading Policy of Fall 2020 say the university generally follows a relative grading scheme. No marks ranges are published. Your instructor sets letters by looking at how the whole class performed.
The letter scale has eleven grades, and it keeps D+ (1.33), which some nearby universities drop. D is the lowest pass. A CGPA of at least 2.00 is needed for an undergraduate degree.
The CGPA formula CUST prints
CUST writes it as CGPA = (h1g1 + h2g2 + ... + hngn) ÷ (h1 + h2 + ... + hn). Here h is the credit hours of a course and g is its grade points. It is the same credit-weighted average this calculator uses.
CUST grade points
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A | 4.00 |
| A- | 3.67 |
| B+ | 3.33 |
| B | 3.00 |
| B- | 2.67 |
| C+ | 2.33 |
| C | 2.00 |
| C- | 1.67 |
| D+ | 1.33 |
| D | 1.00 |
| F | 0.00 |
Worked example: GPA and CGPA at CUST
| Course | Credit hours | Grade | Points | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | 3 | A- | 3.67 | 11.01 |
| Course 2 | 3 | B | 3.00 | 9.00 |
| Course 3 | 3 | C+ | 2.33 | 6.99 |
| Course 4 | 3 | D+ | 1.33 | 3.99 |
| Lab | 1 | A | 4.00 | 4.00 |
| Total | 13 | 34.99 |
GPA = 34.99 ÷ 13 = 2.69.
Now add 45 earlier credit hours at a CGPA of 2.10, which is 94.50 quality points. The total is 129.49 over 58 credit hours, a CGPA of 2.23. That keeps you above the 2.00 needed to graduate, with some room to spare.

Questions people ask
How do I calculate GPA at CUST?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add them and divide by the total credit hours. For example, 34.99 quality points over 13 credit hours gives a GPA of 2.69. Pick your letters in the CUST GPA calculator above to do it in one step.
Does CUST use relative grading?
Yes. The Academic Regulations say CUST generally follows a relative grading scheme, and no fixed marks ranges are published. Your letter depends on class performance, so the calculator asks for letters, not marks.
What is the minimum CGPA to graduate from CUST?
You need a CGPA of at least 2.00 for an undergraduate degree. D is the lowest passing grade in a course, but a run of D and D+ grades will pull your CGPA below that line.
What grade points does D+ carry at CUST?
D+ carries 1.33 and D carries 1.00. The step from C- (1.67) to D+ is one third of a point, the same size as the steps higher up the scale.
Can I convert my CUST CGPA to percentage?
CUST's regulations used here do not include a conversion. For a rough figure, use the HEC method on our CGPA to percentage page. For comparing with other Islamabad universities, see the GPA calculator hub.
