GCUF grades on a 4.00 scale with only five letters: A, B, C, D and F. An A (80% and above) is a flat 4.00. B, C and D each cover a range of points, so two students with a B can have different grade points. Enter the grade points from your result card for the most accurate GPA.
If you only know your marks, pick "Marks (estimate)". The calculator then spreads each band's points evenly across its marks. That is an estimate, not a GCUF rule.
How GCUF grading works
The Students' Handbook of Semester Rules 2025, in force from Fall 2025-26, keeps the same grade bands as the 2017-18 general rules. The bands are wide. B runs from 65 to 79.99 marks and carries 3.00 to 3.99 points. C runs from 50 to 64.99 and carries 2.00 to 2.99.
The handbook prints these ranges but not a mark-by-mark conversion. Many online calculators assume a straight line. We do the same in estimate mode, but we label it clearly because it is not published by GCUF.
Pass marks at GCUF
- 40% aggregate to pass a course, with theory and practical passed separately.
- 50% for Engineering and Pharmacy programmes.
- The D grade (40 to 49.99) applies only to BS and Master programmes.
- Programme completion needs a CGPA of 2.00 under the 2025 rules.

Engineering programmes (BSc Electrical, Telecom and technology) use a different scale: A+ 90 to 100 (4.00), A 80 to 89.99 (4.00), B+ 75 to 79.99 (3.51 to 3.99), B 65 to 74.99 (3.00 to 3.50), C+ 60 to 64.99 (2.60 to 2.99), C 50 to 59.99 (2.00 to 2.59). The calculator uses the general table, so engineering students should enter grade points.
Worked example: GCUF semester and CGPA
Grade points taken from a result card:

GPA = 38.20 ÷ 13 = 2.94.
With a CGPA of 2.40 over 36 earlier credit hours, earlier quality points are 86.40. Add 38.20 to get 124.60, then divide by 49. The new CGPA is 2.54.
Same semester from marks
If you type marks instead (72, 58, 44, 81 and 90), the estimate gives 3.46, 2.53, 1.40, 4.00 and 4.00. That works out to a GPA of 2.94 again here, but the two methods will often differ by a few hundredths.

How do I calculate GPA at GCUF?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add them, and divide by the semester's total credit hours. GCUF's semester rules use this weighted average for GPA, and the same method across all semesters for CGPA. Use the grade points printed on your result card for an exact answer.
What are the passing marks at GCUF?
For most programmes you need 40% aggregate in a course, and theory and practical must each be passed separately. Engineering and Pharmacy programmes need 50%. The D grade for 40 to 49.99 marks applies to BS and Master programmes.
Why does GCUF show a range of grade points for B?
The GCUF handbook sets B at 65 to 79.99 marks with 3.00 to 3.99 points, but does not publish the exact point for each mark. Your department applies its conversion and prints the result on your card. That is why this GCUF CGPA calculator asks for grade points by default.
What CGPA is required to complete a degree at GCUF?
The 2025 semester rules set a CGPA of 2.00 for programme completion. The older 2017 rules had rising yearly minimums for BS students of 1.75, 2.00, 2.25 and 2.50. If you joined under the older rules, confirm with your department which applies to you.
How do I convert my GCUF CGPA into percentage?
The GCUF rules used here give no official CGPA to percentage formula. For a rough figure you can use the HEC method on our CGPA to percentage page. Always quote the CGPA itself on applications, and add the percentage only if asked.
