For most BS programmes GCUF ranks you on 10% Matric and 90% Intermediate. The entry test only has to be passed; it does not add to merit. BS Electrical Engineering and the B.E.Tech programmes are different, and there the test carries 33% or 30%.
Choose your programme and enter your marks. The policy also adds 20 marks for a Hafiz-e-Quran and takes 10 marks off for each year since an older Intermediate pass. Both options are in the form.
GCUF merit formulas
From GCUF Admission Policy 2025-26, clauses 6 and 9.
| Programme or route | Formula | Usual totals |
|---|---|---|
| BS programmes | Matric / SSC 10% + Intermediate (FA, FSc, ICS, ICom, A level) 90% | 1,100 / 1,100 |
| BS Electrical Engineering | FSc / ICS / A level first year 50% + Entry test 33% + Matric / O level 17% | 550 / 100 / 1,100 |
| B.E.Tech (DAE or FSc) | DAE second year or FSc first year 70% + Entry test 30% | 550 / 100 |
GCUF issues a fresh admission policy each year. Compare these weights with the 2026-27 policy on the GCUF admissions portal before you rely on the figure.
Worked example: BS programmes
Matric 950 out of 1,100 and Intermediate 900 out of 1,100.
- Matric: 950 ÷ 1,100 × 10 = 8.6364
- Intermediate: 900 ÷ 1,100 × 90 = 73.6364
- Merit: 82.2727%
As a Hafiz-e-Quran
The 20 marks go on the Intermediate total: 920 ÷ 1,100 × 90 = 75.2727, so merit is 83.9091%.
With a gap
Under the 2025-26 policy, a student who passed Intermediate in 2022, two years before 2024, loses 20 marks: 880 ÷ 1,100 × 90 = 72.0000, so merit is 80.6364%.
Each Intermediate mark is worth 0.0818 points here, so one gap year costs 0.8182 points.
Worked example: engineering
Part I 440 out of 550, entry test 62 out of 100 and Matric 950 out of 1,100.
BS Electrical Engineering
- Part I: 440 ÷ 550 × 50 = 40.0000
- Test: 62 ÷ 100 × 33 = 20.4600
- Matric: 950 ÷ 1,100 × 17 = 14.6818
- Merit: 75.1418%
B.E.Tech
Part I 440 ÷ 550 × 70 = 56.0000, plus test 60 ÷ 100 × 30 = 18.0000, gives 74.0000%. DAE students enter their second year DAE marks and total in place of Part I. Clause 9c splits B.E.Tech seats 50% for DAE and 50% for FSc candidates, and the test needs at least 33%.
Test score needed: BS Electrical Engineering
Part I 440 and Matric 950 give 54.6818 points before the test. Marks are out of 100.
| Target aggregate | Entry test marks needed |
|---|---|
| 70% | 47 / 100 |
| 75% | 62 / 100 |
| 80% | 77 / 100 |
| 85% | 92 / 100 |
For ECAT, which is out of 400, enter 400 as the test total: the same targets then need 186, 247, 307 and 368.
The test still matters for BS. The 2025-26 policy made an entry test compulsory, with 50% to qualify, and let BS applicants use HEC USAT or the GCUF test. Passing is the requirement; the score is not part of the 10/90 merit. The GCUF admission portal lists which programmes need a test in the current intake.
GCUF merit questions
How is GCUF merit calculated?
For BS programmes GCUF uses 10% of your Matric percentage plus 90% of your Intermediate percentage, under clause 6 of its Admission Policy 2025-26. Matric 950/1,100 and Intermediate 900/1,100 give 8.6364 + 73.6364 = 82.2727%. BS Electrical Engineering and B.E.Tech use their own weights with an entry test.
Does GCUF deduct marks for a gap year?
Yes. The 2025-26 policy considers candidates who passed Intermediate before 2024 only after a deduction of 10 marks for each year. Passing in 2022 means 20 marks off your Intermediate total, which lowers a BS merit by 1.6364 points. Pick the number of years in the calculator.
How many marks does a Hafiz-e-Quran get at GCUF?
The policy awards 20 additional marks at the time of merit calculation. The calculator adds them to your Intermediate marks, which raises a BS merit by 1.6364 points. The rule sits in the reserved seats section of the policy, so keep your Hafiz certificate ready for verification.
Is the entry test counted in GCUF BS merit?
No. The policy requires an entry test with 50% to qualify, but clause 6 sets BS merit on Matric and Intermediate only. Only BS Electrical Engineering (33%) and B.E.Tech (30%) give the test a weight in merit. A higher test score therefore does not raise a BS merit.
Which test is accepted for GCUF Electrical Engineering?
Clause 9 accepts an entry test conducted by GCUF, UET Lahore, NED UET, MUET, NUST, NTS, ETEA or another recognised body, in line with PEC rules. Enter your score and that test's total. With Part I 440/550 and Matric 950, you need 62 out of 100 for a 75% merit.
