At the University of Karachi, 85 marks or more earns 4.00 and 50 is the lowest pass (D, 1.00). Between them KU uses twelve grades, each with a fixed point, from A- at 3.80 down to D+ at 1.40. Enter your marks for each course and the calculator applies the KU table.
KU calls the cumulative figure CGPR (cumulative grade point ratio). It is the same thing other universities call CGPA.
How KU grading works
The grading table comes from the KU Semester Rules Book (2002), published by the Semester Examination Section. It has more steps than most Pakistani tables. B is only 71 to 74, B- is 68 to 70, and C is 61 to 63.
The points do not fall evenly. B+ is 3.40, then B drops to 3.00. C+ is 2.40, then C drops to 2.00. D+ is 1.40 and D is 1.00.
Where the D band starts
The rules page lists D as 45 to 52, but the same page says a minimum of 50% is needed to pass. The KU Department of Visual Studies shows D as 50 to 52. We use 50 to 52, so anything below 50 is F here.

GPA = 40.80 ÷ 15 = 2.72.
If Course 4 had been 53 instead of 51, it moves to D+ (1.40). Total points rise to 42.00 and the GPA to 2.80. Two marks near the bottom of the table are worth 0.08 on the whole semester.
Reaching the BS line of 2.20
Say your CGPR is 2.00 after 45 credit hours and you take 15 more. You need 2.20 × 60 = 132.00 points in total. You have 90.00, so you need 42.00 from 15 credit hours: a GPA of 2.80.

How do I calculate my GPA at Karachi University?
Find the grade point for each course from the KU table, multiply by credit hours, add the results and divide by total credit hours. For example, 40.80 grade points over 15 credit hours gives a GPA of 2.72. The KU GPA calculator above does this from your marks.
What is CGPR at KU?
CGPR stands for cumulative grade point ratio. KU works it out as total grade points in all courses divided by total credit hours, which is the same as CGPA elsewhere. Open "Add previous semesters" in the calculator to update your CGPR with a new semester.
What is the passing percentage at University of Karachi?
The rules say a minimum of 50% is required to pass. 50 to 52 marks is a D worth 1.00 point. The rules page also lists D from 45, which conflicts with the 50% rule, so we treat anything below 50 as F.
What CGPR is required for a BS degree at KU?
A BS degree needs a CGPR of 2.20 and a BE needs 2.45. These are higher than the 2.00 many universities use, so it is worth checking your standing each semester.
Can I convert my KU CGPR to percentage?
