At Quaid-i-Azam University, 80 marks or more is an A (4.00) and 50 is the lowest pass (D, 1.00). Before a grade is given, fractions of a mark are rounded to the nearest whole number. So 75.5 becomes 76, which is A- (3.80), not B+.

How QAU grading works
The QAU regulations for the BS (Morning/Evening) programme use a fixed table. Most bands are only 4 marks wide, for example A- is 76 to 79 and B+ is 72 to 75. Narrow bands plus rounding mean half a mark can change your grade.
The point steps are uneven. B+ is 3.50 but B drops to 3.00. C+ is 2.50 but C drops to 2.00 and D to 1.00. The jumps below 72 and below 60 are the costly ones.
Standing rules
- Pass mark in a course: 50%.
- CGPA below 1.00: dismissal.
- CGPA from 1.00 to 2.00: probation.
The regulations page used here does not state a minimum CGPA for the degree.

GPA = 43.80 ÷ 15 = 2.92.
Without rounding, 75.5 would be B+ (3.50) and 63.5 would be C+ (2.50). The GPA would fall to 42.00 ÷ 15 = 2.80. A calculator that ignores QAU's rounding rule can be off by more than a tenth.

Questions people ask
How is QAU GPA calculated?
Each course mark is rounded to the nearest whole number and graded on the QAU table. The grade point is multiplied by the credit hours, the results are added, and the total is divided by the semester's credit hours. In the example above that gives 43.80 ÷ 15 = 2.92.
Does QAU round marks up?
QAU rounds to the nearest whole number, so it goes both ways. 75.5 becomes 76 and moves up to A-, while 71.4 becomes 71 and stays a B. The calculator applies the same rounding before grading each course.
What is the passing percentage at QAU?
You need 50% in a course to pass. 50 to 54 marks is a D with 1.00 grade point. Below 50 is F with zero points, and it counts in your GPA until you clear the course.
What happens if my QAU CGPA is below 2.00?
Under the BS regulations, a CGPA from 1.00 to 2.00 puts you on probation, and below 1.00 leads to dismissal. Use "Add previous semesters" to see the semester GPA you need to climb back above 2.00.
