At the University of Education (UE), grade points rise with every single mark. 90 to 100 marks give 4.00. From 50 to 89, the grade point is 2.00 + 0.05 × (marks minus 50), so 70 marks is 3.00 and 85 is 3.75. Below 50 the course is a fail with 0 points.
Enter your marks out of 100 as whole numbers, as the UE Examination Department GPA calculator only accepts whole marks, and add the credit hours for each course. For CGPA, add your current CGPA and credit hours in the previous semesters section.
UE grading system: marks to grade points
Grade points used by the UE Examination Department GPA calculator for BS, Master, Post ADP and MS/MPhil/MBA courses.
| Marks out of 100 | Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|---|
| 90 and above | Pass | 4.00 |
| 80 to 89 | Pass | 3.50 to 3.95 |
| 70 to 79 | Pass | 3.00 to 3.45 |
| 60 to 69 | Pass | 2.50 to 2.95 |
| 50 to 59 | Pass | 2.00 to 2.45 |
| Below 50 | Fail | 0 |
Inside each row the points climb by 0.05 per mark: 55 is 2.25, 60 is 2.50, 65 is 2.75, 75 is 3.25, 80 is 3.50 and 89 is 3.95. PhD courses use the same rule but the pass mark is 60, so 50 to 59 marks give 0 at PhD level.
Worked example: UE semester GPA
| Course | Credit hours | Marks | Grade points | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | 3 | 90 | 4.00 | 12.00 |
| Course 2 | 3 | 89 | 3.95 | 11.85 |
| Course 3 | 3 | 74 | 3.20 | 9.60 |
| Course 4 | 4 | 63 | 2.65 | 10.60 |
| Course 5 | 3 | 50 | 2.00 | 6.00 |
| Total | 16 | 50.05 |
GPA = 50.05 ÷ 16 = 3.13.
Because there are no wide bands, one extra mark always helps a little: 3 more marks in Course 4 (66) would add 0.60 quality points. The real cliff is at 50. Course 5 earns 2.00 at 50 marks, but at 49 it would earn 0 and the GPA would drop to 2.75.
How to calculate your UE GPA by hand
- For each course, take marks minus 50, multiply by 0.05 and add 2.00. Use 4.00 for 90 or more and 0 below 50.
- Multiply the grade point by the course's credit hours to get quality points.
- Add all quality points and divide by total credit hours.
Example: 72 marks in a 4 credit course is 2.00 + 0.05 × 22 = 3.10, which gives 12.40 quality points. A failed course still counts its credit hours, so it pulls the GPA down until you clear it. The CGPA calculator combines semesters the same way.
UE promotion, probation and degree CGPA
Under the UE Admission & Examination Regulations 2022 (amended in 2024):
- From the second semester on, a CGPA of 2.00 or more means you are promoted.
- A CGPA below 2.00 but at least 1.70 means you are promoted on probation.
- Two year programmes allow one probation. A BS (4 years) allows two, but not both in the first four semesters. A second probation in the first four semesters removes you from the rolls.
- Going past the maximum number of probations also removes you from the rolls.
- The degree needs a CGPA of at least 2.00.
Questions people ask
How is GPA calculated at the University of Education Lahore?
Each course gets grade points from its marks: 4.00 for 90 or more, 2.00 + 0.05 × (marks minus 50) from 50 to 89, and 0 below 50. Multiply by the credit hours, add the results and divide by the total credit hours. So 85 marks in a 3 credit course gives 3.75 × 3 = 11.25.
What are the passing marks at UE?
50 out of 100 for BS, Master, Post ADP and MS/MPhil/MBA courses, which earns 2.00 grade points. Below 50 the course earns 0. At PhD level the pass mark is 60, which earns 2.50.
How many grade points is 80 marks at UE?
3.50. Take 80 minus 50 = 30, multiply by 0.05 to get 1.50, and add 2.00. In the same way 75 marks is 3.25, 70 is 3.00 and 60 is 2.50. Anything from 90 to 100 is the maximum 4.00.
Can I enter decimal marks in the UE GPA calculator?
The UE Examination Department calculator accepts whole marks only. Enter marks as whole numbers here too; a decimal such as 64.5 is counted as 64. Your UMS or LMS result is the final word on your GPA.
What CGPA do I need to avoid probation at UE?
A CGPA of 2.00 from the second semester on keeps you in good standing. Between 1.70 and 1.99 you are promoted on probation. A BS (4 years) student may have at most two probations, and not both in the first four semesters. The degree itself needs 2.00.
How do I convert my UE CGPA to a percentage?
UE's examination rules do not give a CGPA to percentage formula. When a form asks for a percentage, use the method it names. The CGPA to percentage calculator shows the HEC equivalence and the simple CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 figure.
