In 2024-25, a salary of Rs 100,000 a month carried income tax of Rs 2,500 a month, and Rs 150,000 carried Rs 10,000. These figures come from the Finance Act 2024 slabs, which applied to salary paid from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
This year is closed, so the page is mainly for checking what was deducted. If you think your employer took too much, or you are revising an old return, enter that year's salary above.
What was different about 2024-25
Finance Act 2024 kept the Rs 600,000 tax-free limit but charged noticeably more on middle incomes than the years that followed.
- The first taxable slab, Rs 600,000 to 1.2 million, was taxed at 5%. From 2025-26 it became 1%.
- Rs 1.2 million to 2.2 million was taxed at 15%, later cut to 11%.
- Rs 2.2 million to 3.2 million was taxed at 25%.
- Above Rs 4.1 million the rate was 35%, the same top rate as later years.
- A 10% surcharge applied on the tax where taxable income was above Rs 10 million. Finance Act 2024 introduced it under section 4AB. It was cut to 9% in 2025-26 and removed for salaried people in 2026-27.
2024-25 against 2025-26
Monthly tax under each year's slabs, for the same salary over 12 months. The gap is how much less the same pay attracted a year later.
| Monthly salary | Tax per month 2024-25 | Tax per month 2025-26 |
|---|---|---|
| Rs 60,000 | Rs 500 | Rs 100 |
| Rs 100,000 | Rs 2,500 | Rs 500 |
| Rs 150,000 | Rs 10,000 | Rs 6,000 |
| Rs 250,000 | Rs 31,667 | Rs 25,000 |
| Rs 400,000 | Rs 78,750 | Rs 71,750 |
| Rs 700,000 | Rs 183,750 | Rs 176,750 |
| Rs 1,000,000 | Rs 317,625 | Rs 307,108 |
At Rs 60,000 a month, tax went from Rs 500 to Rs 100. At Rs 250,000, it went from about Rs 31,667 to Rs 25,000.
Worked example: Rs 250,000 a month
- Annual salary: Rs 250,000 x 12 = Rs 3,000,000.
- 2024-25 slab: Rs 2,200,001 to Rs 3,200,000, which is Rs 180,000 plus 25% of the amount over Rs 2,200,000.
- 25% of Rs 800,000 is Rs 200,000. Tax for the year: Rs 380,000.
- Per month: Rs 380,000 / 12 = about Rs 31,667.
The effective rate is about 12.67%. For comparison, the same salary paid Rs 300,000 for the year in 2025-26 and Rs 276,000 in 2026-27.
Checking old deductions and refunds
Common reasons to look back at 2024-25:
- Mid-year job change. Each employer deducts only on the salary it pays. Combined income may have fallen in a higher slab, so you could owe a balance.
- Too much deducted. Some employers overshoot after a pay rise or a bonus. If total deductions for the year were more than the slabs require, the excess can be claimed through the return for tax year 2025.
- Bonus or one-off payments. These were added to the year's salary and taxed through the same slabs. Enter them in the bonus field to see the effect.
To check, take the gross taxable salary from your annual tax certificate, select "Yearly salary" above, and compare the result with the tax shown on the certificate.

2024-25 tax questions
Is 2024-25 the same as tax year 2025?
Yes. Pakistan names a tax year after the June in which it ends. The 2024-25 financial year ran from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, so it is tax year 2025. That is the label you will see on FBR's return and on your employer's tax certificate.
How much tax on a Rs 150,000 salary in 2024-25?
Rs 10,000 a month. The annual salary of Rs 1,800,000 was in the 15% slab: Rs 30,000 plus 15% of Rs 600,000, which is Rs 120,000 for the year. In 2025-26 the same salary paid Rs 6,000 a month.
What was the surcharge rate in 2024-25?
10% of the income tax, for salaried people whose taxable income was over Rs 10 million. It was charged on the tax, not on the income. Finance Act 2025 reduced it to 9% for salaried people, and Finance Act 2026 removed it for them from tax year 2027.
Can I still claim a refund for 2024-25?
If more tax was deducted than your slabs required, the excess is claimed through your return for tax year 2025. If that return is already filed, a revision or a refund application may be possible. Rules and time limits apply, so check with FBR or a tax practitioner before relying on it.
