Your bill can differ by a few rupees because charges are adjusted for the days in the reading period.

Homes with a sanctioned load of 5 kW or more are billed on a time-of-use meter: one rate for units used in peak hours and a lower one for the rest of the day. Enter the peak and off-peak units from your bill, the load and, if your bill shows it, the MDI, and the calculator gives the full bill.

Peak units cost Rs 46.85 and off-peak units Rs 34.53. There are no slabs, so a big house that keeps heavy use out of peak hours can pay much less per unit than a home on the ordinary tariff, where everything above 700 units costs Rs 47.20.

Peak and off-peak unit rates for homes

Domestic time-of-use rates of the uniform tariff notified on 12 February 2026, the same for every distribution company and K-Electric.

ConnectionRs per unitFixed charge per month
Peak units46.85Rs 675 per kW on 50% of sanctioned load or MDI
Off-peak units34.53Same fixed charge

The fixed charge is Rs 675 per kW, worked on half the sanctioned load or the month's maximum demand (MDI), whichever is higher.

Worked example: a 7 kW house, 150 peak and 650 off-peak units

Before fuel and quarterly adjustments, for a filer:

Line Working Amount
Cost of electricity 150 × Rs 46.85 + 650 × Rs 34.53 Rs 29,472.00
Fixed charge 50% of 7 kW = 3.5 kW × Rs 675 Rs 2,362.50
FC surcharge 800 × Rs 3.23 Rs 2,584.00
Electricity duty 1.5% of the cost of electricity Rs 442.08
Sales tax 18% Rs 6,275.00
Total Rs 41,136

A non-filer adds 7.5% income tax because the bill is over Rs 25,000, which takes it to about Rs 44,221. The same 800 units on the ordinary unprotected tariff, at Rs 47.20 a unit with Rs 675 per kW on the full 7 kW, would come to about Rs 53,849 before adjustments.

How to cut a time-of-use bill

  • Move heavy loads out of peak hours. Each unit shifted from peak to off-peak saves the gap between the two rates, Rs 46.85 less Rs 34.53, before tax. Run the washing machine, water pump, iron and electric water heater outside the peak window.
  • Watch the MDI. The fixed charge is on half your sanctioned load unless the month's maximum demand is higher. Switching on several air conditioners and a motor together can push the MDI up for the whole month.
  • Check your peak hours. Each company prints its peak window on the bill and it changes with the season. K-Electric, for example, publishes 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm from April to October and 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm from November to March.

If your load is under 5 kW you are on the ordinary slab tariff; use the electricity bill calculator. Shops and offices are on a different tariff: see the commercial electricity bill calculator.

Peak hours bill questions

What is the peak hours unit price in Pakistan?

Rs 46.85 a unit for homes on the time-of-use tariff, and Rs 34.53 off-peak, under the uniform tariff of 12 February 2026. FC surcharge, fuel and quarterly adjustments, electricity duty and 18% sales tax are added on the bill.

Who is billed on peak and off-peak rates?

Domestic connections with a sanctioned load of 5 kW or more, which have a time-of-use meter. Homes below 5 kW stay on the ordinary slab tariff. Shops and offices of 5 kW or more have their own commercial peak and off-peak rates.

How is the fixed charge worked out on a time-of-use bill?

At Rs 675 per kW on half the sanctioned load, or on the month's MDI if that is higher. A 7 kW house with an MDI of 3 kW pays on 3.5 kW; if the MDI reached 5 kW it would pay on 5 kW.

Do protected or lifeline rates apply to a 5 kW house?

No. Protected and lifeline rates are for small domestic users on the slab tariff. A time-of-use connection is billed on its peak and off-peak rates whatever the number of units.
