The base price of one unit for homes in Pakistan runs from Rs 10.54 (protected, first 100 units) to Rs 47.20 (unprotected, above 700 units). Once the September 2026 adjustments and taxes are added, an unprotected home using 300 units pays about Rs 49 per unit all in.
These rates are the same for LESCO, MEPCO, IESCO, K-Electric and every other company. They come from the NEPRA uniform tariff of February 2026, which is still in force because the next rebasing is due on 1 January 2027.

Protected users get one previous slab at the lower rate. Unprotected users pay the slab rate on every unit, so at 350 units all 350 are charged Rs 36.46.
What one unit really costs
The rate table is only part of the story. Each unit also carries the fuel adjustment (Rs 2.0581), the quarterly adjustment (Rs 0.5194) and the debt service surcharge (Rs 3.23). That is Rs 5.81 per unit before any tax. Then come fixed charges, electricity duty, GST and, for large bills, income tax.

The jump between 400 and 500 units is partly income tax. A 500 unit bill passes Rs 25,000, so a non-filer pays 7.5% more. On the Active Taxpayers List, 500 units comes to Rs 27,952, or Rs 55.90 per unit.
Worked example: price of one unit at 300 units
Take an unprotected home using 300 units on a 2 kW load.
- Base rate: Rs 33.10
- Fuel adjustment: Rs 2.0581
- Quarterly adjustment: Rs 0.5194
- Debt service surcharge: Rs 3.23
- Fixed charges: Rs 700 ÷ 300 = Rs 2.33
That is Rs 41.24 before tax. Electricity duty adds about Rs 0.54 a unit, and GST adds about Rs 7.51. The total bill of Rs 14,787.04 divided by 300 gives Rs 49.29 per unit.
Without electricity duty, as some Punjab bills now show, the same 300 units come to about Rs 14,599, or Rs 48.66 per unit.
Why the price per unit moves every month
The base rate only changes when NEPRA rebases the tariff, now once a year on 1 January. The adjustments change far more often.
- The fuel adjustment is set monthly and billed two months later. In 2026 it has ranged from minus Rs 0.0102 (March, billed May) to Rs 2.0581 (July, billed September).
- The quarterly adjustment changes every three months. It was minus Rs 1.9857 on June to August bills and is Rs 0.5194 from September to November.

What is the 1 unit electricity price in Pakistan today?
The base rate is Rs 10.54 to Rs 13.01 for protected homes and Rs 22.44 to Rs 47.20 for unprotected homes. With September 2026 adjustments and taxes, the real cost is about Rs 24 per unit for a protected home and Rs 40 to Rs 70 for an unprotected one, depending on units used.
Is the LESCO unit price different from K-Electric?
No. Since February 2026 the same uniform tariff applies to all eleven government distribution companies and K-Electric. The fuel and quarterly adjustments are also set in the same NEPRA decisions. Differences on your bill come from electricity duty, meter rent and your own load, not from the company.
Why is my per unit cost higher than the tariff rate?
The tariff rate covers the electricity only. The bill adds fixed charges on your sanctioned load, the fuel and quarterly adjustments, the Rs 3.23 surcharge, 1.5% duty where charged and 18% GST. At 300 units these add about Rs 16 to every unit.
Did the unit price change in the July 2026 budget?
No. The base tariff was not changed on 1 July 2026, because rebasing moved to 1 January. The rates set in February 2026 remain in force. What changed on bills after July was the monthly fuel adjustment and the quarterly adjustment.
