Lifeline is for single-phase connections up to 1 kW that use 100 units or less. Lifeline homes pay no fixed charge and no fuel or quarterly adjustment. This calculator also leaves out the Rs 3.23 surcharge for them, which we could not confirm either way.
Lifeline rates have no slab benefit. At 100 units all 100 are billed at Rs 7.74, not 50 at Rs 3.95 and 50 at Rs 7.74.
What unit 101 costs
For a protected home, unit 101 falls in the 101 to 200 slab. The extra unit is billed at Rs 13.01, but the fixed charge also moves from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per kW. So 101 units cost about Rs 2,682.14, which is Rs 258.47 more than 100 units.
