The bill shows the FPA month, e.g. "FPA for JUL-26". Enter your units for that month from the 12-month history. Leave blank to use this month's units.

Quarterly adjustment billed September to November 2026. It can be negative, e.g. -0.45. Use the figure on your bill if it differs.

Ticked because many recent bills still show it. Untick it if your bill has no electricity duty line.

Non-filers pay 7.5% income tax when the bill is Rs 25,000 or more.

Bills round the current bill to the nearest rupee and put the few paisa of difference in the cost of electricity line. The late payment surcharge is on the electricity charges without the fuel adjustment and taxes; your bill prints the last date for the lower amount. The first bill of a new connection can cover more than one month.

A 150 unit electricity bill comes to about Rs 3,117 for a protected home and Rs 6,766 for an unprotected one, on a 2 kW load with the current adjustments and taxes. The same 150 units cost more than twice as much without protected status.

That makes 150 units the level where the six month rule bites hardest. A home that stays at 150 units all winter but went over 200 in the summer keeps paying the unprotected bill until it has six straight months at 200 units or less.

Total Rs 3,117.43 Rs 6,765.91

At this level both types pay the same fixed charge of Rs 300 per kW. The whole gap comes from the unit rates and the FC surcharge.

Why the protected bill is less than half

  • Slab benefit. A protected home pays the first 100 units at Rs 10.54 and only the next 50 at Rs 13.01. An unprotected home pays Rs 28.91 on all 150.
  • FC surcharge. Rs 0.43 a unit protected against Rs 3.23 unprotected: Rs 65 against Rs 485.
  • GST follows the charges. 18% of a bigger bill is a bigger tax, Rs 445 against Rs 1,002.

Per unit, the protected home pays Rs 20.78 and the unprotected home Rs 45.11.

Losing and winning back protected status

NEPRA's tariff gives protected rates to a home that has used 200 units or less in each of the last six months. One month above 200 ends it, and FESCO told its staff in July 2026 that no reading correction is allowed even for one unit over.

Take a home that used 230 units in July and 150 units in each of the next five months. Each of those five bills is about Rs 6,766 instead of Rs 3,117. Only after six straight months at 200 units or less does the protected rate return. The Power Division said in September 2026 that it was reviewing this rule; until a change is notified, it applies.

In a hot month, check the meter around the 20th day of the billing period. If you are heading past 200, the 200 units bill page shows how much the last units cost.

If the 150 unit bill is paid late

The bill shows a higher amount for payment after the due date: 5% for 3 days, then 10%, charged on the electricity charges without the fuel adjustment and taxes.

  • Protected: Rs 3,117 by the due date, Rs 3,239 in the next 3 days, Rs 3,362 after that.
  • Unprotected: Rs 6,766, Rs 7,041 and Rs 7,316.

All figures use a 2 kW load, electricity duty of 1.5%, no meter rent, the August 2026 fuel adjustment, billed in October 2026 and the quarterly adjustment on September, October and November 2026 bills. Arrears, meter rent and the days in your reading period change the printed bill, which is the amount to pay.
