3 marla plot size: sides that work
DHA's by-laws do not list a 3 marla residential plot, and schemes lay them out in different shapes. Any front and depth that multiply to 675 sq ft make 3 society marla. The table gives the depth for common fronts.
A narrow front makes a deep, dark house. On a 3 marla plot a front of 20 ft or more usually gives better rooms than 18 ft, because stairs and a car space eat a fixed width.

Why 3 marla plots exist in every scheme
The Punjab Private Housing Schemes and Land Sub-division Rules 2010 required that 20% of the plots in a housing scheme be planned as plots of up to 5 marla for the low income group. That is one reason 3 and 5 marla blocks appear even in schemes that sell mostly kanal plots.
The same rules set the marla at 225 sq ft in Lahore district and 272 sq ft in other districts of Punjab. So a 3 marla plot in a private scheme outside Lahore could be 816 sq ft on paper, not 675. The allotment letter should state the area in sq ft; if it does not, ask.
Building on a 3 marla plot (LDA)
In LDA approved schemes, plots under 5 marla may cover 80% of the plot (clause 2.2.3 of the LDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2019), up to 3 storeys and 38 ft. Only a 5 ft building line at the front is required, with no rear or side space.
Worked example on a 20 × 33.75 ft plot: after the 5 ft front space, 20 × 28.75 = 575 sq ft is left, but 80% of 675 is 540 sq ft, which is the limit. Three floors give up to 1,620 sq ft covered.
