A 2 marla house is small, so the difference of 94.5 sq ft between the two marla sizes is about a fifth of the whole plot. Check which marla the seller means before you compare prices.

Plot sides that make 2 marla
DHA Lahore's list of standard plots starts at 5 marla. DHA Gujranwala's regulations of 2022 list a 2 marla plot of 15 ft by 30 ft, but as a commercial size. For a house, any pair of sides that multiply to 450 sq ft makes 2 society marla:
- 15 ft × 30 ft = 450 sq ft
- 18 ft × 25 ft = 450 sq ft
- 20 ft × 22.5 ft = 450 sq ft
On the revenue scale 2 marla is 18 square karam. A strip 3 karam wide and 6 karam long, which is 16.5 ft × 33 ft, gives exactly 544.5 sq ft.

How much of a 2 marla plot you can build on (LDA)
In LDA approved schemes in Lahore, clause 2.2.3 of the LDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2019 allows 80% ground coverage on plots under 5 marla, up to 3 storeys and 38 ft. Clause 2.2.1 asks for a 5 ft building line at the front, and no rear or side space.
On a 15 × 30 ft plot the front space leaves 15 × 25 = 375 sq ft, but 80% of 450 is 360 sq ft, so the coverage limit is the one that bites. Over three storeys that is up to 1,080 sq ft of covered area.
In June 2021 LDA published draft amendments that would remove the coverage limit for plots up to 5 marla. Ask the LDA office which text applies when you file the map. DHA, cantonments and other authorities have their own by-laws. For costs, use the house construction cost calculator.
