The tax line. Taxable pay is the gross less the medical allowance: Rs 191,995 a month. Twelve months of it is above Rs 2,200,000, so this officer is in the 20% slab. The year's tax is Rs 116,000 plus 20% of the part above Rs 2,200,000: Rs 136,788, or Rs 11,399 a month.
From here each increment of Rs 5,450 adds Rs 4,665 to take-home pay. In the first years of the scale, still in the 11% slab, it added Rs 5,190.

The 20% slab starts at stage 9 in a big city and at stage 10 at other stations. Officers who have an official vehicle, free transport or transport monetisation do not get the conveyance allowance, so their gross is Rs 7,500 lower. Outside the big cities, and last year
House rent is the only line that changes with the place of posting. At a station outside the nine big cities it is 30% of the 2008 minimum plus 50%, which is Rs 8,856 for BPS-19. A new officer there gets Rs 132,942 gross, pays Rs 3,718 tax and takes home Rs 116,514.
In 2025-26 the same minimum stage paid Rs 87,840 basic pay in BPS-2022, plus ARA-2025 of Rs 8,784 (10%) and ARA-2022. Both allowances were merged into the BPS-2026 pay of Rs 105,510, and ARA-2026 of Rs 7,386 is new money on top. The increment rose from Rs 4,530 to Rs 5,450.
