For CSS the age limit is 21 to 30 years on 31 December of the year before the exam, so for CSS 2027 your age is taken on 31 December 2026. Some groups get 2 more years, up to 32. For other government jobs, age is taken on the closing date in the advert, and a general relaxation of 5 years is added to federal limits.

The rules below are the ones the calculator uses. Only one category relaxation can be claimed, though the federal general relaxation is added on top of it.

Provincial relaxations are often time-bound and renewed by notification. The advert you are applying to always has the final word.
CSS age limit and relaxation
The FPSC notice for CSS 2026 set the age at 21 to 30 years on 31 December 2025, with two years more for the categories in rule 6. The same pattern gives 31 December 2026 as the cut-off for CSS 2027. The categories are:
- government servants with at least 2 years' continuous service,
- residents of Gilgit-Baltistan or Azad Jammu and Kashmir,
- recognised tribes of the tribal areas,
- members of the Scheduled Castes and the Buddhist community,
- persons with a disability holding a certificate.
Only one relaxation counts, so nobody can go past 32. The 5-year general relaxation for other federal jobs does not apply to CSS. A 2025 proposal to raise the CSS limit to 35 did not change the rules: the CSS 2026 notice kept 30.
Example
Born 15 March 1997, sitting CSS 2027. On 31 December 2026 the age is 29 years, 9 months and 16 days. That is within 30, with 2 months and 15 days to spare. Anyone born between 31 December 1996 and 31 December 2005 qualifies without relaxation.
Federal jobs: the 5-year general relaxation
Federal adverts print the limit for the post, such as 18 to 25, and add "plus 5 years general relaxation". This comes from an Establishment Division order of November 2000. On top of it you can claim one relaxation under the Initial Appointment to Civil Posts (Relaxation of Upper Age Limit) Rules 1993, such as 10 years for government servants (up to age 55) or 3 years for candidates from rural Sindh and Balochistan for posts in BPS-15 and below.
Example
Advert limit 18 to 25, closing date 15 October 2026, born 1 January 1996. The age on the closing date is 30 years, 9 months and 14 days. With the general relaxation the upper limit is 30, so the candidate is over by 9 months and 14 days. A rural Sindh domicile for a BPS-15 post adds 3 years: the limit becomes 33 and the candidate qualifies.
How age is counted for an age limit
"Not more than 30 years" is read to the day. On the cut-off date you may be 30 years and 0 days, but not 30 years and 1 day. Commissions do not round. The calculator therefore shows the exact age, how far over or under you are, and the first and last dates of birth that qualify.
Age is counted in completed years, months and days. A birthday on 29 February counts on 28 February in a common year. For your plain age on any date, use the age calculator.
Relaxations change often. Sindh's relaxation runs to 31 December 2026, Balochistan's is for three years from August 2026, and Punjab renews its general relaxation by notification. Age limit questions
What is the age limit for CSS?
21 to 30 years, counted on 31 December of the year before the exam. For CSS 2027 that is 31 December 2026. Government servants with 2 years' service, residents of Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK, recognised tribes, Scheduled Castes, the Buddhist community and persons with a disability can go up to 32. Only one relaxation applies.
Does the 5-year general relaxation apply to CSS?
No. The Establishment Division's clarification of June 2010 says the relaxations for other federal posts do not apply to posts filled through the CSS exam. CSS has its own 2-year relaxation for the categories in its rules, which caps the age at 32.
What is the upper age limit for government jobs in Pakistan?
It depends on the post. Adverts print a range, often 18 to 25 or 21 to 30, then add relaxation. Federal jobs add 5 years general relaxation plus one category, such as 10 years for serving government servants. Punjab adds 5 years for men and 8 for women, and Balochistan has raised its limit to 43.
On which date is my age counted?
For CSS, 31 December of the year before the exam. For most other jobs, the closing date of the advert. Some commissions fix a different date for competitive exams, so check the advert. Enter that date in the calculator to see your exact age on it.
Can I combine two relaxations?
Not two category relaxations. The 1993 federal rules say a candidate entitled under more than one category gets relaxation in one only. The federal 5-year general relaxation is separate and is added on top of that one category.
