For PPSC jobs your age is taken on the closing date in the advert. Each post has its own limits, such as 18 to 25 or 21 to 35. Punjab then adds a general relaxation of 5 years for men and 8 years for women, and certain candidates get more under the 1976 relaxation rules.

How PPSC age limits work
- Read the post's limits. They are printed against each post in the advert, for example "Male: 18 to 25, Female: 18 to 25".
- Take your age on the closing date. Not on the test date or the date you apply.
- Add the general relaxation. 5 years for men. Women get 3 more under S&GAD notification SORI(S&GAD)9-36/81 of 21 May 2012, so 8 in all.
- Add one category relaxation if you qualify. See the table below.
- Compare to the day. Being one day over the limit makes you ineligible.
Semi-government, autonomous body and local government employees are not treated as government servants for the service relaxation. Ad hoc and contract rules differ from post to post, so read your advert.
Relaxations under the Punjab rules of 1976

For government servants and ex-servicemen the calculator asks how many years to deduct and adds them to the upper limit, which gives the same answer. For any post filled on the Combined Competitive Examination the 1976 Rules cap the limit at 35, so PMS has its own option in the calculator.
Some adverts print a fixed limit for government servants instead of the deduction, or say the general relaxation is not admissible for a post. The advert prevails. Use the "other relaxation" box, or set the limits to what your advert says.
Worked examples
A woman applying for a post with limits 18 to 25, closing date 15 October 2026, born 1 March 1993. Her age on the closing date is 33 years, 7 months and 14 days. With 8 years' relaxation the limit is 33, so she is over by 7 months and 14 days.
A man with the same post and birth date. His limit is 25 + 5 = 30. He is over by 3 years, 7 months and 14 days. If he has 4 years of continuous Punjab government service and the advert allows both relaxations, those 4 years are deducted as well and his limit becomes 34. He is then eligible with 4 months and 14 days to spare.
A candidate with a disability, post limits 21 to 35, born 1 June 1985. On 15 October 2026 he is 41 years, 4 months and 14 days. Where the advert allows the general relaxation on top of the disability relaxation, his limit is 35 + 5 + 10 = 50 and he is well within it. With the disability relaxation alone it is 45, and he still qualifies.
When the general relaxation is not given
The general relaxation is a policy of the Punjab government, renewed by notification. It has been applied in PPSC adverts through 2026. It does not apply to the Combined Competitive Examination for PMS and allied posts, which has its own rule: 21 to 30 on 1 January of the exam year, currently raised to 32 for 2026 and 2027. PPSC age questions
What is the age relaxation in PPSC jobs?
Punjab gives a general relaxation of 5 years to men and 8 years to women on the upper limit printed for the post. Government servants can deduct their continuous service from their age, ex-servicemen their service and the gap since release, and persons with a disability get 10 years.
On which date does PPSC count age?
On the closing date for applications given in the advert. For the Combined Competitive Examination (PMS) the age is counted on 1 January of the examination year instead.
Do women get more age relaxation in Punjab?
Yes. Under S&GAD notification of 21 May 2012 women get 3 years more than men, so the general relaxation is 8 years for women and 5 for men. If the post limit is 25, a woman can be up to 33 on the closing date.
Can a government employee apply over age?
Yes, within the rules. Under rule 3(v) of the 1976 Rules the period of continuous government service is deducted from the age. For posts filled through the Combined Competitive Examination the limit cannot go above 35.
What if I am one day over the age limit?
You are not eligible. "Not more than 30 years" means 30 years and 0 days on the closing date. The calculator shows the exact number of days over or under, and the range of birth dates that qualify.
