At PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, GPA is the sum of quality points divided by the sum of credit hours. Each credit hour carries 20 marks, so a 3 credit hour course is out of 60 and a 4 credit hour course is out of 80. Scoring 80% of the course total earns the full 4 points per credit hour, and 40% is the pass mark.

Arid grading bands
These bands, the 20 marks per credit hour rule and the 40% pass mark are stated on Arid's own examination evaluation page. PhD students need 50% to pass.

The band points are the full-mark values at the bottom of each band. Within each band the quality points rise mark by mark (see the tables below), so two B grades can carry different points. That is why Arid students need the full table, not just the letter.

Look closely and the steps are uneven: 26 marks gives 3.9 but 27 gives 4.5, and 34 gives 7.2 but 35 gives 7.8. The table is reproduced exactly as published, with no smoothing.

Some marks share a value: 42 and 43 both give 8.8, 50 and 51 both give 11.6. From 64 marks upwards the course earns the full 16 quality points.
Worked example: one Arid semester

GPA = 57.80 ÷ 16 = 3.61.
Now add the semester to a CGPA of 3.20 earned over 34 credit hours. Old quality points are 3.20 × 34 = 108.80. New total is 108.80 + 57.80 = 166.60 over 50 credit hours, so CGPA = 166.60 ÷ 50 = 3.33.
Arid and UAF are not the same
Arid and UAF both use 20 marks per credit hour and full points at 80%. The in-between values differ, so a UAF calculator gives Arid students slightly wrong answers:

The gaps are small per course but add up over eight semesters.
Where the table comes from. Arid's examination evaluation page gives the bands, the pass mark, 20 marks per credit hour and the GPA formula, and says a quality points table is used. The table itself is not in the page text. The values here are the ones published by the Gujrat Institute of Management Sciences, an Arid-affiliated institute, and are copied exactly. Courses of 6 or more credit hours are estimated from the 5 credit hour table. If your result card shows a different figure, the result card is right.

How do I calculate GPA at Arid University?
Find the quality points for each course from Arid's table using your marks and the course's credit hours. Add the quality points of all courses and divide by the total credit hours. For example, 57.80 quality points over 16 credit hours gives a GPA of 3.61.
How many marks do I need for 4.00 in a 3 credit hour course at Arid?
You need 48 out of 60, which is 80%. That earns 12 quality points, the most a 3 credit hour course can give. Every mark from 48 to 60 gives the same 12 points. Below 24 marks (40%) the course is F with no quality points.
What is the passing mark at PMAS Arid?
Arid's evaluation rules set the pass mark at 40% for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and 50% for PhD. So a 3 credit hour course is passed at 24 out of 60, which gives 3.00 quality points and a D grade.
