Habib University grades each course with a letter, and there is no D grade. The scale runs A+ and A (4.00), A- (3.67), B+ (3.33) and so on down to C- (1.67), then F. Your GPA is your total quality points divided by your total attempted credits.
The bar is also higher than at most Pakistani universities. You need a CGPA of at least 2.33 to stay in good standing and to graduate, not 2.00. Pick each course's grade and credits below. For CGPA, add your current CGPA and credits in the previous semesters section.
Habib University grading scale
From section 2.15.1 of the Habib University course catalog 2024-25.
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A+ | 4.00 |
| A | 4.00 |
| A- | 3.67 |
| B+ | 3.33 |
| B | 3.00 |
| B- | 2.67 |
| C+ | 2.33 |
| C | 2.00 |
| C- | 1.67 |
| F | 0.00 |
| F-A | 0.00 |
F-A is a fail on account of low attendance and counts as 0. Grades AU, W, W-A, I, TR, CR, NCR and P carry no points and are left out of the GPA, so a course taken on a pass basis does not change it.
Worked example: Habib semester SGPA
| Course | Credits | Grade | Grade points | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | 3 | A+ | 4.00 | 12.00 |
| Course 2 | 3 | A- | 3.67 | 11.01 |
| Course 3 | 4 | B | 3.00 | 12.00 |
| Course 4 | 3 | C+ | 2.33 | 6.99 |
| Course 5 | 3 | C- | 1.67 | 5.01 |
| Total | 16 | 47.01 |
SGPA = 47.01 ÷ 16 = 2.94.
Each letter step is worth about a third of a point. Raising the C- in Course 5 to a C would add 0.99 quality points and lift the SGPA to 3.00.
Getting your CGPA back to 2.33
If your CGPA falls below 2.33 you receive an academic warning, then first probation, then final probation. If you are still below 2.33 at the end of the final probation semester, you are dismissed.
To find the semester GPA you need, use: (2.33 × total credits after this semester minus current CGPA × current credits) ÷ this semester's credits.
Example: CGPA 2.20 over 45 credits, with 15 credits this semester. (2.33 × 60 minus 2.20 × 45) ÷ 15 = (139.80 minus 99.00) ÷ 15 = 2.72. A semester of straight B- grades (2.67) would fall just short.
Retaking helps. A course may be retaken twice, for three attempts in total, and only the best grade counts in the CGPA. The other attempts are marked R on the transcript. The CGPA calculator and the SGPA calculator work through these sums.
Questions people ask
How is GPA calculated at Habib University?
Multiply the credits of each course by the grade points of the letter you earned to get its quality points. Add the quality points and divide by the total attempted credits. A B in a 4 credit course gives 12.00 quality points. SGPA covers one semester and CGPA covers all your semesters.
Is there a D grade at Habib University?
No. The lowest grade that carries points is C- at 1.67. Below that the grade is F, worth 0. F-A, a fail on account of low attendance, also counts as 0 in your GPA.
What is the minimum CGPA at Habib University?
A CGPA of 2.33 is needed to stay in good standing and to graduate. Below 2.33 you get an academic warning, then first and final probation. Missing 2.33 at the end of the final probation semester leads to academic dismissal.
Does an A+ count more than an A at Habib?
No. Both carry 4.00 grade points, so an A+ looks better on the transcript but adds nothing extra to your SGPA or CGPA. The maximum GPA is 4.00.
How many times can I repeat a course at Habib University?
A course may be retaken two times, for a total of three attempts. Only the best grade counts in your GPA, and the other attempts show as R on the transcript. Use the calculator with your updated grades to see the effect.
Do pass or credit grades affect my Habib GPA?
No. P, CR and NCR are not counted, and neither are AU, W, W-A, I or TR. Only the letter grades from A+ to F, plus F-A, enter the SGPA and CGPA.
