Within each band the points rise by 0.1 for every mark above the band's minimum. So 74 is 3.40, 75 is 3.50, 76 is 3.60 and 77 is 3.70.
How Riphah turns marks into grade points
Most universities give one fixed value to a whole band, so 70 and 74 earn the same points. Riphah does not. Its rule is simple:
Grade points = 1.00 + 0.1 × (marks - 50), for marks from 50 to 79. At 80 and above the points stop at 4.00.
This makes every mark count. A student on 69 gets 2.90, while 70 gets 3.00. A student on 79 gets 3.90, one mark short of the full 4.00.
Rounding of decimal marks
Section 10(b) of the regulations rounds a total with a decimal before the grade is fixed. If the first decimal is 5 or more, the mark goes up: 67.5 becomes 68. If it is below 5, the mark goes down: 67.4 becomes 67. The calculator follows the same rule, so you can type your total exactly as it appears in your portal.
Worked example: one Riphah semester

GPA = 45.40 ÷ 15 = 3.03.
Now add a previous CGPA of 3.05 over 34 credit hours. Earlier quality points are 3.05 × 34 = 103.70. New CGPA = (103.70 + 45.40) ÷ (34 + 15) = 149.10 ÷ 49 = 3.04.
Course 4 carries four credit hours, so each extra mark there adds 0.40 quality points, more than any other course. The CGPA calculator shows how further semesters move your total.
Relative grading. The regulations allow relative grading, in line with HEC guidelines, in classes of more than 20 students. If your teacher grades on a curve, your letter grade may not match the table. Switch to grade points entry and type the points printed on your result.
Riphah GPA questions
What is the Riphah grading system?
Riphah uses 4.00 for 80 and above (A+ from 90, A from 80). Below that, the points fall by 0.1 per mark: A- 78 to 79, B+ 74 to 77, B 70 to 73, B- 68 to 69, C+ 64 to 67, C 60 to 63, C- 58 to 59, D+ 54 to 57 and D 50 to 53. Below 50 is F.
What are the passing marks at Riphah?
Each undergraduate course needs at least 50%, which earns a D at 1.00. The degree needs a CGPA of at least 2.0. MS and MPhil courses need 60%, and those programmes need a CGPA of 2.50.
How is 67.5 treated in the Riphah GPA?
It is rounded up to 68, which is B- at 2.80. Under section 10(b) a first decimal of 5 or more goes up and anything below 5 goes down, so 67.4 would stay at 67 and earn C+ at 2.70.
Can I improve a grade at Riphah by repeating the course?
Undergraduates may repeat a course graded D, F or W. The old grade is marked R and the new grade counts in the CGPA. If the new grade is lower, the earlier grade is kept and the new attempt is marked W.
