SZABIST does not give 4.00 for an A. Only an A+ (90 to 100) earns 4.00. An A (85 to 89) is worth 3.75 and an A- (80 to 84) is 3.50. The pass mark is 55, a C- worth 1.50.

Enter your marks out of 100 and the credit hours for each course, or switch to letter grades. The calculator applies the SZABIST table and gives your GPA. For CGPA, add your current CGPA and credit hours in the previous semesters section.

SZABIST grading system

The grading table printed in the SZABIST prospectus 2026, the same table as in the SZABIST Student Handbook.

Marks (%)GradeGrade points
90 and aboveA+4.00
85 to 89A3.75
80 to 84A-3.50
75 to 79B+3.25
70 to 74B3.00
66 to 69B-2.75
63 to 65C+2.50
60 to 62C2.00
55 to 59C-1.50
Below 55F0.00

The steps are uneven. B- covers 66 to 69, C+ only 63 to 65 and C 60 to 62. Between C (2.00) and C- (1.50) there is a half point gap, so 59 and 60 marks differ by 0.50 grade points.

Worked example: SZABIST semester

Course Credit hours Marks Grade Quality points
Course 1 3 88 A 11.25
Course 2 3 86 A 11.25
Course 3 3 77 B+ 9.75
Course 4 4 68 B- 11.00
Course 5 3 58 C- 4.50
Total 16 47.75

GPA = 47.75 ÷ 16 = 2.98.

On the HEC table the same marks give 3.10, because 85 and above is 4.00 there. If another calculator shows you a higher figure, check that it uses the SZABIST table.

SZABIST grading criteria: where one mark changes the grade

  • 90: A+ (4.00). At 89 you get A (3.75).
  • 85: A (3.75). At 84 you get A- (3.50).
  • 66: B- (2.75). At 65 you get C+ (2.50).
  • 60: C (2.00). At 59 you get C- (1.50).
  • 55: C- (1.50). At 54 the course is F.

No rounding rule is printed with the table, so enter your marks exactly as shown on your result.

Minimum CGPA, retakes and improvement

Under the SZABIST Student Handbook, an undergraduate must keep a CGPA of at least 1.75. Falling below it leads to first probation, then second probation, then dismissal. Summer semesters are not counted for probation. Masters students need 2.25, MS students 2.50 and PhD students 2.75. HEC policy sets 2.00 as the minimum CGPA for a bachelor's degree.

Only an F must be repeated, and you retake it when the course is next offered. You may also retake a passed course to improve it, but you sit all of its assessments again with no attendance waiver. When a course is retaken, the better grade is used in the CGPA. The CGPA calculator shows how a retake changes your cumulative figure.

Questions people ask

What is the SZABIST grading criteria?

A+ 90 to 100 (4.00), A 85 to 89 (3.75), A- 80 to 84 (3.50), B+ 75 to 79 (3.25), B 70 to 74 (3.00), B- 66 to 69 (2.75), C+ 63 to 65 (2.50), C 60 to 62 (2.00), C- 55 to 59 (1.50), and F below 55 (0).

Why is an A only 3.75 at SZABIST?

SZABIST splits the top of its scale into A+ and A. Only 90 or more earns an A+ and 4.00. Marks of 85 to 89 are an A at 3.75. Most HEC style tables give 4.00 from 85, so a strong SZABIST student can see a slightly lower GPA than a calculator built on the HEC table.

What are the passing marks at SZABIST?

55 marks, which is a C- worth 1.50 grade points. Below 55 the grade is F with zero points, and F is the only grade you must repeat. An F adds credit hours but no points, so it pulls your GPA down until you retake the course and the better grade is used.

How do I calculate my SZABIST CGPA?

Multiply your current CGPA by the credit hours it covers, add this semester's quality points, and divide by the new credit hour total. For example, 3.10 over 64 credit hours plus the 47.75 points above over 16 hours gives 246.15 ÷ 80 = 3.08. Use the previous semesters section of the calculator for this.

What CGPA do I need to avoid probation at SZABIST?

At least 1.75 for undergraduate programmes, 2.25 for masters, 2.50 for MS and 2.75 for PhD, as set in the SZABIST Student Handbook. Below that you go on first probation and then second probation, and a third shortfall leads to dismissal.
