Khyber Pakhtunkhwa charges a fixed yearly token tax by engine size: Rs 2,000 up to 1000cc, Rs 3,000 up to 1300cc, Rs 4,000 up to 1500cc, Rs 5,000 up to 2500cc and Rs 8,000 above that. Add section 234 income tax, and a 1300cc car pays Rs 5,500 a year for a filer.
These rates came in with the KP Finance Act 2025, from 1 July 2025, and were not changed for 2026-27. KP does not use the car's value, so the price box above does not affect the result.

Token tax on common cars in KP
Yearly totals for 2026-27 worked out by the calculator. The value column does not change the KP tax; it is shown only to match the other province pages.
| Engine | Invoice value | Motor vehicle tax | 234 tax (filer) | Total, filer | Total, non-filer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 660cc | Rs 2,400,000 | Rs 2,000 | Rs 800 | Rs 2,800 | Rs 3,600 |
| 1,000cc | Rs 3,200,000 | Rs 2,000 | Rs 800 | Rs 2,800 | Rs 3,600 |
| 1,300cc | Rs 4,500,000 | Rs 3,000 | Rs 2,500 | Rs 5,500 | Rs 8,000 |
| 1,800cc | Rs 9,000,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 4,500 | Rs 9,500 | Rs 14,000 |
| 2,700cc | Rs 20,000,000 | Rs 8,000 | Rs 10,000 | Rs 18,000 | Rs 28,000 |
Worked example
1300cc car, non-filer
| Step | Amount |
|---|---|
| KP motor vehicle tax, 1001 to 1300cc | Rs 3,000 |
| Section 234 tax, 1300cc, non-filer | Rs 5,000 |
| Yearly total | Rs 8,000 |
A filer pays Rs 3,000 + Rs 2,500 = Rs 5,500. Once the car is more than ten years old, section 234 is no longer collected, so a 12-year-old 2700cc car pays only the Rs 8,000 motor vehicle tax.
Motorcycles and electric cars
Motorcycles and scooters pay Rs 2,500 once for their lifetime; the schedule in force before the 2025 Act listed Rs 1,000. There is no yearly token after that, and no section 234 tax on motorcycles.
The 2025 Act exempts all electric four-wheelers from token tax up to 30 June 2028. The calculator does not apply this exemption, so enter nothing for an electric car.
Section 234 income tax collected with the token
The excise office collects this federal advance income tax along with the provincial tax. These are the FBR rates for 2026-27. A non-filer pays double.
| Engine | Yearly, filer | Yearly, non-filer | Lump sum, filer | Lump sum, non-filer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,000cc | Rs 800 | Rs 1,600 | Rs 10,000 | Rs 20,000 |
| 1,001 to 1,199cc | Rs 1,500 | Rs 3,000 | Rs 18,000 | Rs 36,000 |
| 1,200 to 1,299cc | Rs 1,750 | Rs 3,500 | Rs 20,000 | Rs 40,000 |
| 1,300 to 1,499cc | Rs 2,500 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 30,000 | Rs 60,000 |
| 1,500 to 1,599cc | Rs 3,750 | Rs 7,500 | Rs 45,000 | Rs 90,000 |
| 1,600 to 1,999cc | Rs 4,500 | Rs 9,000 | Rs 60,000 | Rs 120,000 |
| Above 1,999cc | Rs 10,000 | Rs 20,000 | Rs 120,000 | Rs 240,000 |
The tax is adjustable against your income tax for the year. Under section 234(2A), it is not collected on a car once it has been in use for more than ten years in Pakistan. The lump sum column applies when the province collects the motor vehicle tax in one go, such as a lifetime token.
KP token tax questions
How much is token tax in KPK for a 1000cc car?
Rs 2,000 a year motor vehicle tax plus Rs 800 section 234 tax for a filer, Rs 2,800 in total. A non-filer pays Rs 1,600 income tax instead, so Rs 3,600. KP does not have a lifetime token for cars, only for motorcycles.
When did KP increase token tax?
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Act 2025 replaced the schedule from 1 July 2025. A 1300cc car went from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000 a year and a car above 2500cc from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000. We found no change to private car rates in the 2026-27 budget.
Is token tax for electric cars exempt in KP?
Yes. The KP Finance Act 2025 exempts all electric four-wheelers from token tax up to 30 June 2028. The schedule lists rates for electric cars by motor power, which would apply after that date.
Does KP charge token tax on the car's price?
No. KP charges a fixed amount by engine capacity, so every 1300cc car pays Rs 3,000 whatever it cost. Only Punjab and Islamabad use invoice value for cars above 1000cc.
