For most BS programmes at GCU Lahore, merit is 20% Matric and 80% Intermediate Part I, with no entry test. Matric 1,000/1,100 and Part I 480/550 gives exactly 88%.
Two programmes are different. BSc Electrical Engineering and BS Information Security Engineering Technology use academics for 70% and a test (GCU test, ECAT or a PEC-approved test) for 30%. Pick the formula above.

Merit = (Matric ÷ total × 20) + (Inter Part I ÷ total × 80)
Electrical Engineering and Information Security
GCU applies the same 20/80 academic split, but inside a 70% share, then adds a 30% test. That works out to:
Merit = (Matric ÷ total × 14) + (Inter Part I ÷ total × 56) + (test ÷ total × 30)
The 14% and 56% figures are our arithmetic from GCU's wording (20% and 80% of 70). They are not printed by GCU in that form.
LLB uses the LAT, and some programmes such as Physical Education and BFA have their own tests. This calculator does not cover those.
Worked examples
BS programme (no test)
Matric 1,000 out of 1,100 and Inter Part I 480 out of 550.
- Matric: 1,000 ÷ 1,100 × 20 = 18.1818
- Part I: 480 ÷ 550 × 80 = 69.8182
- Merit: 88.0000%
Same student, Hafiz-e-Quran
GCU adds 20 marks to the Part I marks: (480 + 20) ÷ 550 × 80 = 72.7273, so merit becomes 90.9091%. That is almost three points, which is a large jump on a merit list.
Electrical Engineering
Same school marks, 55 out of 100 in the test.
- Matric: 1,000 ÷ 1,100 × 14 = 12.7273
- Part I: 480 ÷ 550 × 56 = 48.8727
- Test: 55 ÷ 100 × 30 = 16.5000
- Merit: 78.1000%

Is there an entry test for GCU BS admission?
Not for most BS programmes. A test is used only where a regulator requires it, such as LAT for LLB, and for Electrical Engineering and Information Security Engineering Technology (30% test). Physical Education and BFA have their own tests.
How many Hafiz marks does GCU give?
Twenty marks, added to your Intermediate Part I (or DAE or AS level) marks, subject to an oral test. On a BS programme that raises the example merit from 88% to 90.9091%. Tick the Hafiz box to include it.
Does GCU use FSc Part I or full FSc?
Part I. The Fall 2026 rule names Intermediate Part I, DAE (first and second year) or AS level for the 80% part. Enter your first-year marks with the correct total, usually 550. Full FSc marks out of 1,100 would give a different, wrong result.
