IIUI has two formulas. Most BS programmes have no admission test, and merit is 40% SSC plus 60% HSSC. Where an accreditation body requires a test, as in engineering, engineering technology and computing, merit is 15% SSC, 25% HSSC and 60% IIUI admission test.

IIUI does not round percentages: 49.99% stays 49.99%. The calculator cuts the result at four decimals instead of rounding it, to match.

From IIUI's Admission Policy, clauses 1.6 and 1.8, as shown on the IIUI admission page.

Which programmes have a test

In the Fall 2026 intake IIUI set admission tests for:

  • BS Electrical, Computer, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, and the Bachelor of Engineering Technology programmes
  • BS Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology and Bioinformatics

Other BS programmes use the 40/60 academic formula. LLB applicants also need a passed HEC Law Admission Test (LAT) result. For BS Electrical Engineering, IIUI asks for at least 60% in HSSC and 60% in SSC (Science).

Worked examples

SSC 950 out of 1,100 and HSSC 900 out of 1,100.

Programme without a test

  1. SSC: 950 ÷ 1,100 × 40 = 34.5455
  2. HSSC: 900 ÷ 1,100 × 60 = 49.0909
  3. Merit: 83.63636..., shown as 83.6363% (cut, not rounded)

Programme with a test (65 out of 100)

  1. SSC: 950 ÷ 1,100 × 15 = 12.9545
  2. HSSC: 900 ÷ 1,100 × 25 = 20.4545
  3. Test: 65 ÷ 100 × 60 = 39.0000
  4. Merit: 72.4090%

The test carries more weight than both board exams together. Five more test marks add 3 points; getting the same 3 points through HSSC would take 132 more marks.

Result awaited candidates

If your HSSC result is not out, clause 1.6 calculates merit on 60% of the marks you obtained in Part I. Enter your Part I marks out of 550 in the HSSC row. With SSC 950 and Part I 460 out of 550, the no-test merit is 34.5455 + 50.1818 = 84.7272%.

Admission on this basis is provisional. You must submit the final result within 15 days of the semester starting, and you must reach the required marks to keep the seat.

Test score needed: engineering and computing

SSC 950 and HSSC 900 give 33.4090 points before the test, which is out of 100.

IIUI merit questions

How is IIUI merit calculated?

For BS programmes without a test, IIUI uses 40% SSC and 60% HSSC. For programmes with a test it uses 15% SSC, 25% HSSC and 60% test. SSC 950/1,100 and HSSC 900/1,100 give 83.6363% on the first formula; add a test score of 65 and the second gives 72.4090%.

Is there an entry test for IIUI BS programmes?

Only where an accreditation body requires one, under clause 1.5 of the policy. In Fall 2026 that meant engineering, engineering technology and the computing programmes (CS, SE, IT and Bioinformatics). In those programmes the test carries 60% of merit, with SSC 15% and HSSC 25%. All other BS programmes rank on SSC and HSSC alone.

Does IIUI round off percentages?

No. Clause 3.2 says the absolute value of a percentage is final and is not rounded to the next whole number, so 49.99% is 49.99%, not 50%. This matters most at eligibility cut-offs such as the 60% needed in HSSC for engineering.

What test score do I need for IIUI computer science?

With SSC 950 and HSSC 900, you need 61 out of 100 for a 70% merit and 70 for 75%. Enter your own board marks and a target in the calculator. Closing merits change every year and differ by programme, so compare with the merit list for your programme.

Can I apply to IIUI on Part I marks?

Yes. For result awaited candidates, clause 1.6 works out merit on 60% of the marks obtained in Part I. Admission is provisional until you submit your final result, which must reach IIUI within 15 days of the semester starting. In the calculator, enter your Part I marks out of 550 in the HSSC row.
