The GRE test fee in Pakistan is US$249 for the GRE General Test, the ETS fee for every country except China from 1 August 2026. At Rs 277.12 a dollar (State Bank rate, 29 September 2026) that is about Rs 69,000, or Rs 69,348 with a filer's card advance tax.

All GRE fees are set in US dollars and charged to your card by ETS.
Rules behind the charges
- Four free score reports. Choose up to four schools when you register or right after the test. Each school added later costs US$40.
- Rescheduling costs US$55 and must be done no later than four days before the test. Miss that and the fee is lost.
- Changing your test centre costs US$55.
- Cancelling no later than four days before the test returns half the fee, US$124.50.
- Retakes: once every 21 days, up to five times in any 12 months. Each attempt is a new US$249 fee.
The ETS fee reduction programme is limited to US citizens and resident aliens, so candidates in Pakistan pay the full fee.
Worked examples
One attempt, four schools, filer. US$249 x Rs 277.12 = Rs 69,003. Tax at 0.5% = Rs 345. Total about Rs 69,348.
Applying to six schools. Two extra reports at US$40 = US$80, so US$329: about Rs 91,172 plus Rs 456 tax = Rs 91,628.
Rescheduled once and sent scores to eight schools. US$249 + US$55 + four extra reports at US$160 = US$464: about Rs 128,584 plus Rs 643 tax = Rs 129,227.
Non-filer, one attempt. Tax at 1% is Rs 690, total about Rs 69,693.
Score review
You can ask ETS to rescore the Analytical Writing essay for US$60. Verbal and Quantitative scores are reviewed only through the Question and Answer service, which is open to New York State residents. Reinstating scores you cancelled costs US$50.
Before paying for a review, check the Writing score each programme asks for. If you already meet it, a review adds cost without changing your application.
Other costs of applying abroad
Graduate schools usually want an English test as well. The TOEFL fee is US$230 and is paid the same way. Your Pakistani degree and transcript will need HEC attestation at Rs 3,000 per document, and some countries also ask for a MOFA stamp or apostille. If your passport is near expiry, check the passport fee too.
The GRE is paid online by card in US dollars, so your bank adds section 236Y advance tax: 0.5% for filers and 1% for non-filers. It is adjustable against your income tax.
