IELTS Fee in Pakistan 2026: Test Fee Calculator

The IELTS fee in Pakistan is Rs 76,240 in Lahore and other Punjab cities and Rs 75,600 in Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar and the rest, for IELTS Academic or General Training on computer. British Council and IDP charge the same for these two tests, but their UKVI and Life Skills fees differ.

IELTS test fee in Pakistan by test

Where two figures are shown, the lower one applies in Islamabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Quetta and similar cities, and the higher one in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and the other Punjab cities.

British Council's table has applied since 9 June 2026. IELTS is delivered on computer in Pakistan; British Council also offers a computer test where you write the Writing section on paper, at the same fee. There is no separate cheaper paper test.

Which IELTS do you need?

IELTS Academic is for university admission abroad and for some professional registrations. General Training is for work visas and migration to Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Both cost the same.

IELTS for UKVI is the version the UK Home Office accepts for visa applications that ask for a Secure English Language Test. The questions match Academic or General Training, but the test runs under extra security, so the fee is different. British Council charges Rs 72,000 and IDP Rs 78,820.

IELTS Life Skills tests only speaking and listening at level A1 or B1. It is for UK family visas and settlement. British Council holds it in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Mirpur.

One Skill Retake lets you resit one section (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking) within 60 days of a computer test, once per test. IDP charges Rs 47,630 to Rs 48,050. British Council shows its retake fee when you book.

Remark and date change fees

A remark is officially called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). Apply within six weeks of the test. If any band goes up, the whole remark fee is refunded.

British Council charges 25% of the test fee for a date change made 5 to 14 days before the test. IDP charges the fixed amounts above. With both, a change made 15 or more days before is free, and inside 5 days a change is not allowed.

Worked examples

Student in Lahore, British Council, bank transfer. IELTS Academic: Rs 76,240. The result is 6.0 in Writing against a required 6.5, so the student asks for a remark: Rs 39,650 more, total Rs 115,890. If Writing rises to 6.5, the Rs 39,650 comes back.

Same student pays by credit card as a filer. The bank deducts 0.5% advance tax under section 236Y on a payment settled abroad: Rs 381, so the card is charged about Rs 76,621. A non-filer pays 1%, Rs 762.

Worker in Islamabad moves the test date 10 days before. British Council charges 25% of Rs 75,600, which is Rs 18,900.

Missed one band in Reading, IDP Lahore. A One Skill Retake costs Rs 48,050, against Rs 76,240 for the full test.

Refunds and cancellation

Cancel 15 or more days before the test and you get 75% back. Both centres keep 25% as an administration fee. On a Rs 76,240 test that is a refund of about Rs 57,180. Cancel within 14 days and nothing is refunded.

The exception is a serious reason such as a medical emergency or a death in the family. Apply for special consideration with proof. British Council accepts these up to two days after a missed test.

If you paid by card, the bank does not return the advance tax it deducted, even when the test fee is refunded. You can still claim that tax in your income tax return, as it is adjustable.

Paying the fee

British Council accepts an interbank transfer (IBFT) through online banking or ATM, a cash deposit at Standard Chartered or MCB, a bank draft in its name, or an online card payment. Cheques are not accepted. IDP shows its payment options when you book.

Paying by bank transfer avoids two extras: the card advance tax, and the small difference that comes from the card payment being settled in foreign currency.
