Duolingo English Test Fee in Pakistan

The Duolingo English Test fee is US$70 per test, the same in Pakistan as everywhere else. At Rs 277.12 a dollar, the State Bank rate on 29 September 2026, that is about Rs 19,400 before card charges. Sending your results to universities is free.

What the rupee cost is made of

The test is sold only online, in US dollars, and paid by card. A payment from a Pakistani card to a foreign merchant goes through three steps.

1. Conversion. Your bank turns US$70 into rupees at its own card selling rate on the day the charge posts. This is normally a few rupees above the interbank rate.
2. Bank charge. Some banks add a foreign currency or cross border fee, stated as a percentage in their schedule of charges. Enter it in the calculator if your bank has one.
3. Advance tax. Under section 236Y of the Income Tax Ordinance, the bank deducts advance tax on payments abroad by debit, credit or prepaid card: 0.5% for filers on the Active Taxpayers List and 1% for non-filers. It is adjustable, so you can claim it back against your tax for the year.

Worked examples

One test, filer, no bank fee. US$70 x Rs 277.12 = Rs 19,398. Advance tax at 0.5% = Rs 97. Total about Rs 19,495.

One test, non-filer. Same Rs 19,398, but tax at 1% is Rs 194, total about Rs 19,592.

Bank charges 3% and converts at Rs 277.12, filer. Conversion Rs 19,398, bank charge Rs 582, tax Rs 100 on the converted amount plus the charge. Total about Rs 20,080.

Planning for a second attempt. Two separate tests cost US$140, about Rs 38,991 for a filer at Rs 277.12. Duolingo also sells a two test bundle at a discount; its price shows at checkout.

What you get for US$70

• One test credit with three attempts. Each time you start the test counts as an attempt. If your internet drops, you can start again, up to three times on the same credit.
• 21 days from purchase to take the test.
• Free score sending. Duolingo charges nothing to send results to institutions, unlike TOEFL and GRE, which charge per extra report.
• A two test bundle gives 21 days for the first test and another 21 days after its result for the second. Bundles cannot be refunded or shared with another account.

The test is taken at home on a computer with a webcam, microphone and a quiet room. Nothing else is payable to Duolingo.

Duolingo or IELTS?

At about Rs 19,500, the Duolingo test costs roughly a quarter of the Rs 75,600 to Rs 76,240 IELTS fee, and there is no travel to a test centre. The catch is acceptance: many universities in the US, Canada and Europe take it for admission, but visa authorities such as UK Visas and Immigration do not. Check your university's and your visa route's English requirement before you pay.
