A Rs 500 Ufone load gives Rs 434.78 balance, and Rs 100 gives Rs 86.96. Ufone says it is designated under section 236 of the Income Tax Ordinance to collect advance income tax (AIT) from its customers, at 15%. GST of 19.5% is charged on the services you use.

Ufone publishes its rates by region, which the table below repeats. Pick your region in the calculator; Gilgit-Baltistan has no tax at all.

  1. AIT: 500 × 15 ÷ 115 = Rs 65.22
  2. Balance: 500 − 65.22 = Rs 434.78
  3. GST inside that balance when used: 434.78 × 19.5 ÷ 119.5 = Rs 70.95
  4. Service value: Rs 363.83

In Gilgit-Baltistan the same Rs 500 gives Rs 500 of balance and no GST is taken on usage.

Ufone tax questions

How much tax on Ufone Rs 100 load?

Rs 13.04 AIT, so Rs 86.96 goes to your balance. GST at 19.5% is then inside what you spend, which is Rs 14.19 of the Rs 86.96. In Gilgit-Baltistan neither tax applies and you keep the full Rs 100.

How do I get a Ufone tax certificate?

Ufone can issue a certificate showing the AIT collected on your number in a tax year. Ask through Ufone's official app, website or helpline. Enter the amount in your income tax return as advance tax paid, where it counts against your liability.

Does Ufone charge tax in Azad Kashmir and the merged districts?

Yes. Ufone's table lists 19.5% GST and 15% AIT for Azad Jammu and Kashmir, for the former FATA and PATA areas merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and for the former PATA areas merged with Balochistan. Only Gilgit-Baltistan is shown at 0% for both.

Who is exempt from Ufone advance tax?

Ufone lists Gilgit-Baltistan at 0%. Others can be exempt only with a valid exemption certificate, which Ufone asks you to share with its staff. Being a filer is not an exemption: filers also pay 15%, and claim it back through their return.

How much should I load on Ufone to get Rs 1,000 balance?

Rs 1,150, because the balance is the load divided by 1.15. Select "I want balance" and type the amount you need to check any other figure.
