A Rs 200 Zong recharge gives Rs 173.91 balance. Zong's terms say "Advance Income Tax (AIT) rate of 15% applies on every recharge" and "Sales tax (GST) of 19.5% applies on usage". The advance tax is the Rs 26.09 difference. The sales tax comes out later, as part of the price of each call, SMS or bundle.

For Rs 100 the balance is Rs 86.96. The calculator above does any amount, and it can also work backwards from the balance you need.

Zong balance calculation step by step

Take a Rs 1,000 Zong card or easyload.

  1. Advance income tax: 1,000 × 15 ÷ 115 = Rs 130.43
  2. Balance credited: 1,000 − 130.43 = Rs 869.57
  3. Sales tax paid as you use it: 869.57 × 19.5 ÷ 119.5 = Rs 141.90
  4. Value of service: 869.57 − 141.90 = Rs 727.67

The phrase "if applicable" in Zong's terms covers places where sales tax is not charged, such as Gilgit-Baltistan, and services Zong prices without tax.

Zong Yaari Load

Yaari Load is Zong's balance share. Zong lists these terms:

  • Charge: Rs 5 per transfer, taken from the sender
  • Amount you can send: Rs 10 to Rs 200
  • The sender must keep at least Rs 5 after the transfer
  • Up to 5 transfers a day
  • Dial *828# to send balance and *829# to request it; requests are free

To send Rs 100 you need at least Rs 110 in your account: Rs 100, the Rs 5 charge and the Rs 5 that must remain.

Zong load tax questions

How much tax is on Zong Rs 100 recharge?

Rs 13.04 advance income tax, leaving Rs 86.96 of balance. Sales tax of 19.5% is then charged as you use it, which is Rs 14.19 of that balance. You get Rs 72.77 worth of service from Rs 100.

How much should I load on Zong to get Rs 500 balance?

Rs 575. Multiply the balance you want by 1.15. For Rs 1,000 of balance, load Rs 1,150. Select "I want balance" in the calculator for any other figure.

How do I get a Zong tax certificate?

Zong can issue a certificate of the advance income tax collected on your number for the tax year. Request it through Zong's official channels, then enter the amount in your income tax return as tax already deducted. It is only useful if you file a return.

Does Zong charge tax in Gilgit-Baltistan?

Jazz and Ufone both publish Gilgit-Baltistan as exempt from advance tax and sales tax on telecom. Zong's terms do not list regions but say sales tax applies "if applicable". Choose Gilgit-Baltistan in the calculator to see the untaxed figure.

Why did I get less than Rs 86.96 from a Rs 100 Zong load?

The tax part of a Rs 100 recharge is always Rs 13.04, so the credit should be Rs 86.96. If your balance rose by less, check your balance message for a bundle renewal, a subscription service or an unpaid advance balance taken from the new load. Those are charges for services, not tax.
