Classes on Pakistan Railways
Pakistan Railways sells five classes: AC Sleeper, AC Parlour Car, AC Business, AC Standard and Economy. Not every train carries all of them. Long-distance trains such as Khyber Mail, Tezgam and Karachi Express have AC Sleeper at the top. Green Line has AC Parlour and AC Business but no AC Sleeper. Subak Raftar, Subak Kharram, Rawal Express and Islamabad Express sell AC Standard as a seat rather than a berth.
The calculator lists only the classes the chosen train has, with each fare beside it, so you can see the difference before you choose.
Concessions on train fares
Pakistan Railways lists these concessions on the fare. The last column shows what each pays for an economy ticket from Karachi to Lahore on Allama Iqbal Express:
| Passenger | Concession | Allama Iqbal Express Karachi Cantt to Lahore Jn, Economy (full fare Rs 3,750) |
|---|---|---|
| Blind person | 50% | Rs 1,875 |

Concessions are given at the reservation office, so take the student card or other proof with you. Senior citizens and disabled persons booking online fill in a Pakistan Railways e-ticketing form with copies of their CNIC; a disabled passenger's CNIC must carry the disability logo.
Worked example: two students and a parent
Two students and their father travel from Karachi to Lahore in economy on Allama Iqbal Express. The father pays Rs 3,750 and each student pays half, so the three tickets come to Rs 7,500 one way.
Why train fares change
Pakistan Railways revises fares when the diesel price moves. From 9 March 2026 economy fares went up by 5% and AC fares by 10%, after the government raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 55 a litre. On 3 April 2026 the Prime Minister told Pakistan Railways to keep fares unchanged in every class.
By road, the motorway toll tax calculator gives the toll for each motorway and the fuel cost calculator works out the petrol for the same trip, so you can compare a family car journey with train tickets.
Fares here are for one full adult ticket, as at 19 October 2026. Ask the reservation office for the fare for a child. Seats and berths can be booked up to 90 days ahead, online or at a reservation office.
