Value used: US launch price, 256GB (Apple, 9 September 2025). FBR's valuation rulings do not list this model, so the launch price is used as a guide.

PTA tax on the iPhone 17 is about Rs 93,281 on passport and Rs 115,837 on CNIC for a filer, taking Apple's US launch price of US$799 for the 256GB model. A non-filer registering on CNIC pays about Rs 127,337.

Apple announced the iPhone 17 on 9 September 2025, more than four months after FBR's last ruling for new iPhones (1999/2025 of 23 April 2025). So there is no official value for it. Customs assess the value printed on your PSID; the launch price is the nearest public guide to it.

iPhone 17, US launch price, 256GB (Apple, 9 September 2025) at US$799 × Rs 276.75.

Sales tax at 25% is the biggest single line: Rs 59,681 on passport, because the regulatory duty is added to the value before the tax is worked out.

Just over the US$700 line

The base iPhone 17 is about US$100 above US$700, the point where the mobile levy doubles from Rs 8,000 to Rs 16,000. The regulatory duty (Rs 17,600) and the 25% sales tax rate are the same on both sides of that line.

Worked example: US$799 on passport

  • Value: 799 × Rs 276.75 = Rs 221,123
  • Regulatory duty: Rs 17,600
  • Sales tax: 25% of Rs 238,723 = Rs 59,681
  • Mobile levy: Rs 16,000
  • Total: Rs 93,281

If customs valued the phone at US$700 instead, the passport bill would be Rs 78,431. For comparison, FBR's ruling puts a new 128GB iPhone 16 at US$666, inside the US$500 to 700 slab, so it pays Rs 76,079 on passport. The iPhone 16 PTA tax page has every storage size.

Apple's price and the price you paid

Apple's US$799 includes a US$30 discount that applies only when the phone is activated with a US carrier. A set bought without that activation costs US$829, and at that value the passport tax is Rs 95,356.

Customs can take a different value again, so the PSID is what counts. If you already have it, choose "Enter value in US$" in the calculator and type the value it shows.

iPhone 17 PTA tax at different dollar rates

The value is set in US dollars, so the rupee bill follows the exchange rate on the day the PSID is made.

  • Filer status. On CNIC a non-filer pays Rs 23,000 withholding tax instead of Rs 11,500.

  • Other models. The thinner iPhone 17 Air PTA tax starts from a US$999 launch price, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max PTA tax from US$1,199.

iPhone 17 PTA tax questions

How much is iPhone 17 PTA tax on passport?

About Rs 93,281 at a US$799 value and Rs 276.75 to the dollar. That is Rs 17,600 regulatory duty, Rs 59,681 sales tax and a Rs 16,000 levy. There is no withholding tax or additional customs duty on the passport route, which is open for 60 days after you arrive.

What is the iPhone 17 PTA tax on CNIC?

About Rs 115,837 for a filer and Rs 127,337 for a non-filer. CNIC adds Rs 8,845 additional customs duty at 4% and withholding tax, and the sales tax rises to Rs 61,892 because the extra duty is taxed as well.

Can I pay iPhone 17 PTA tax in instalments?

Finance Act 2026 lets the sales tax part be paid in instalments within the financial year, and FBR set out the procedure in Circular 1 of 2026 on 11 September 2026. Whether the option appears for your phone is shown in DIRBS when you generate the PSID, so check there before you pay the full amount.

Why is there no FBR value for the iPhone 17?

FBR's latest ruling for new iPhones, 1999/2025, was issued in April 2025 and stops at the iPhone 16 range. Its used-phone ruling 2070/2026 lists iPhones only up to the 15 series. For a model not listed, customs set a value under section 25 of the Customs Act, and that value appears on your PSID.

Is iPhone 17 PTA tax lower than the iPhone 16 Pro Max?

Yes. A new iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB at FBR's value of US$1,070 comes to Rs 112,031 on passport, against Rs 93,281 for the iPhone 17. Both are in the top slab, so the gap is sales tax only.

Every figure uses the US$799 launch price, the 2026-27 rates and Rs 276.75 to the dollar, the State Bank rate of 30 October 2026. Treat it as a guide; the PSID that DIRBS issues for your IMEI is the amount due.
