How storage changes the tax
All three sizes are well above US$700, so the fixed items do not change: Rs 17,600 regulatory duty and Rs 16,000 levy. The difference is all sales tax at 25%, plus additional customs duty on CNIC.
- 256GB to 512GB: US$120 more adds Rs 8,319 on passport.
- 512GB to 1TB: US$240 more adds Rs 16,639 on passport.
A 1TB set on passport (Rs 153,083) costs almost as much in tax as a 256GB set on CNIC for a filer (Rs 157,650). If you are choosing which size to bring home, the tax gap between 256GB and 1TB, about Rs 24,958, is worth adding to the price gap.

Things to check first
- Dual SIM. A dual SIM phone has two IMEIs. Make sure both are in your application and both show as registered after you pay.
- 60 days. The passport route is open for 60 days after your arrival. After that it becomes a CNIC registration with a fine.
- Five a year. One person can register up to five devices a year in DIRBS.
