Worked example: a plan drawn in metres
An overseas relative sends a house plan for a plot 12 m wide and 25 m deep.
- Area: 12 × 25 = 300 m².
- Square feet: 300 × 10.7639 = 3,229.17 sq ft.
- Society marla: 3,229.17 ÷ 225 = 14.35 marla.
- Revenue marla: 3,229.17 ÷ 272.25 = 11.86 marla.
So the plan needs a plot of about 14 and a third marla in a society, which is more than a standard 10 marla (2,250 sq ft) and less than a kanal (4,500 sq ft). Check the sides as well: 12 m is 39.4 ft of frontage and 25 m is 82 ft of depth.
