Gaz is the everyday word for a square yard. One gaz is 9 sq ft. Karachi and most of Sindh sell plots by gaz, while Punjab and Islamabad usually use marla and kanal.

Worked example
A 120 gaz house in Karachi, compared with a Lahore society plot:
- Square feet: 120 × 9 = 1,080 sq ft
- Society marla: 1,080 ÷ 225 = 4.8 marla
- Revenue marla: 1,080 ÷ 272.25 = 3.97 marla
So a 120 gaz plot is a little under a 5 marla society plot, which is 125 gaz. For square feet directly, use marla to square feet or square feet to marla.
