On the society scale, 125 sq yd is exactly 5 marla and 500 sq yd is exactly 1 kanal.
Worked example: a 240 gaz plot
You are comparing a 240 sq yd plot in Karachi with a 10 marla plot in Lahore.
- Square feet: 240 × 9 = 2,160 sq ft
- On the society marla: 2,160 ÷ 225 = 9.6 marla
- The 10 marla society plot is 10 × 225 = 2,250 sq ft
So the Lahore plot is 90 sq ft (10 sq yd) larger. If the 10 marla plot were measured in revenue marla, it would be 2,722.5 sq ft, which is 302.5 sq yd.

Which marla to use for a gaz plot
Karachi and most of Sindh state plot sizes in square yards, so no marla is involved until you compare with Punjab. When you compare, use the marla that the other plot's documents use. Most Punjab housing schemes use 225 sq ft, while fard and rural land use 272.25 sq ft. If you only have a "marla" figure from an advert, ask for the area in square feet.
