How Pakistanis apply

Pakistani passport holders apply through the embassy in Islamabad. You fill in the visa application form on the e-visa site of Uzbekistan's foreign ministry, print and sign it, and give the embassy copies of your passport pages and a passport photo. Your passport must have a blank page and be valid for three months beyond the visa.

A tourist visa needs an invitation letter from a tourist company in Uzbekistan; only citizens of a short list of Western countries and Japan are excused, and Pakistan is not among them. Travel agents and tour operators can also apply for you through the Uzbek foreign ministry. The embassy takes up to 10 working days, and you collect the visa in person.

Worked examples

A family of four on a 10-day holiday

The 15-day single entry visa covers 10 days: 4 x $50 = $200, about Rs 55,402.

Twelve friends on a Samarkand and Bukhara tour

As a group of 12 on the 15-day group visa they pay 12 x $15 = $180, about Rs 49,862. On separate 15-day visas the same 12 people would pay $600.

A trader who goes back every few months

A one-year multiple entry visa costs $250, about Rs 69,253. Five separate 30-day visas would cost $300, so the yearly visa pays off from the fifth trip.

Paying the fee

The embassy lists its fees in US dollars and says they are paid on collection of the visa. Payment goes to the embassy's account at a bank in Islamabad, and the embassy asks applicants to confirm the exact amount with its Consular Section before paying. If your bank converts the payment, its rate on the day sets the rupee cost, so enter that rate above for a closer figure.

The group rate is for a tourist group of 10 or more people travelling together. A smaller party pays the ordinary single entry fee for the same length of stay, and the calculator switches to it when fewer than 10 people are entered.
