Punjab University does not use a simple three-way split. Your Matric marks are divided by four and added to your Inter Part I marks to make a 75% academic part. The PU admission test (out of 100) makes up the other 25%.
This formula is from PUCIT's official admission criteria. PUCIT is part of PU, and we assume other PU departments use the same rule, but some may differ. Check your department's notice.
The PU formula
Academic part = (Matric ÷ 4 + Inter Part I + 20 if Hafiz) ÷ (Matric total ÷ 4 + Inter Part I total) × 75
Test part = test marks ÷ 100 × 25
Aggregate = academic part + test part
Dividing Matric by four means one Part I mark counts four times as much as one Matric mark. With Matric out of 1,100 and Part I out of 550, the academic denominator is 275 + 550 = 825.
Worked example
A student has Matric 1,000 out of 1,100, Inter Part I 480 out of 550 and 65 in the PU test.
- Matric ÷ 4: 1,000 ÷ 4 = 250 (total 1,100 ÷ 4 = 275)
- Academic: (250 + 480) ÷ (275 + 550) × 75 = 730 ÷ 825 × 75 = 66.3636
- Test: 65 ÷ 100 × 25 = 16.2500
- Aggregate: 82.6136%

The 20 marks go on top of the academic marks: (250 + 480 + 20) ÷ 825 × 75 = 68.1818. Adding the test, the aggregate becomes 84.4318%. Tick the Hafiz box above to see this.
The PU admission test
The PU admission test for 2026 is out of 100 marks and carries 25% of merit, according to PU's admission notice as reported by education portals. The second 2026 test was held on 19 July 2026.
Because the test is only a quarter of merit, school marks matter more at PU than at NUST, where the test is 75%. Each test mark adds 0.25 points. Each Part I mark adds about 0.09 points.
Not verified. Some websites say PU deducts 2 marks per gap year, up to 10. We could not find this in any PU document, so the calculator does not apply it. Departments outside PUCIT may use their own criteria. We do not publish closing merits.
PU merit questions
How is Punjab University merit calculated for BS?
PU takes (Matric ÷ 4 + Inter Part I) as a share of (Matric total ÷ 4 + Part I total), multiplies by 75, then adds the admission test out of 100 times 0.25. With Matric 1,000/1,100, Part I 480/550 and test 65, the merit is 66.3636 + 16.25 = 82.6136%.
Why is Matric divided by 4 in PU merit?
It reduces Matric's weight so that Inter Part I counts for more. After dividing by four, Matric out of 1,100 becomes 275, while Part I stays at 550. So Part I carries two thirds of the academic part.
Does PU give Hafiz-e-Quran marks?
Yes. PUCIT's criteria add 20 marks to the academic numerator for Hafiz-e-Quran candidates. In the example above that lifts the aggregate from 82.6136% to 84.4318%. The university normally verifies Hafiz status with a test before the marks are counted.
