The Islamabad to Peshawar motorway toll tax for a car, jeep or taxi is Rs 700 one way and Rs 1,400 return on the M-1, from 10 July 2026. It was Rs 550 before. A wagon pays Rs 1,100, a coaster or minibus Rs 1,450, a bus Rs 2,100, a 2 or 3 axle truck Rs 2,700 and an articulated truck Rs 3,350.

M-1 motorway toll tax rate by vehicle

NHA groups vehicles into six classes on the M-1. A wagon means a van of up to 12 seats, such as a Hiace. The coaster class covers vehicles of 13 to 24 seats, which includes most minibuses.
How much the M-1 toll went up in July 2026
The July 2026 revision raised the M-1 toll by about a quarter for every class. The earlier rates applied from 1 April 2025.

Unlike the M-2, which rises by a fixed yearly percentage under its concession agreement, the M-1 is run by NHA itself. Its toll changes whenever NHA issues a new notification, so there is no set date for the next rise.
Monthly toll for regular travellers
Many people drive between Islamabad and Peshawar every weekend. Four return journeys a month cost:

A car making the round trip every weekend pays Rs 5,600 a month in toll, or Rs 67,200 a year at the July 2026 rates.
Worked example: a daily wagon service
A Hiace operator runs one return trip between Peshawar and Islamabad every day, 26 days a month.
- Toll one way for a wagon: Rs 1,100
- Return trip: 1,100 x 2 = Rs 2,200
- A month of 26 trips: 2,200 x 26 = Rs 57,200
- A year: 57,200 x 12 = Rs 686,400
The July 2026 rise alone adds Rs 250 each way, which is Rs 13,000 a month for this operator. Fuel is the larger cost on the same route; the fuel cost calculator gives it from distance and your vehicle's average.
Shorter trips on the M-1
The M-1 is a closed motorway. Your entry point is recorded and the toll is charged by where you get on and where you get off. A trip that uses only part of the road, for example Islamabad to Swabi or Peshawar to Rashakai for Mardan, costs less than the full toll shown here. The rate board at your exit gives the section toll.
Travellers heading south to Dera Ismail Khan leave the M-1 at Hakla and join the M-14. They pay part of the M-1 toll and then the M-14 toll, which is Rs 800 for a car over its full length. The motorway toll calculator covers the M-14 and other roads.
Toll is taken through M-Tag, so keep at least the return fare on your tag before you set out.

Yes. The M-1 charges by entry and exit point, so a trip over part of the motorway costs less than the full Rs 700 for a car. The section toll is shown on the rate board at the exit toll plaza.
Why is the M-1 toll lower than the M-2 toll?
The M-1 is shorter and is run by NHA at its own notified rates. The M-2 is run by a private operator under a concession that sets a per-kilometre charge rising 7% a year. A car pays Rs 700 on the M-1 and Rs 1,430 on the M-2.
