Money comes in only when you stay longer or travel on business. Each extension past 30 days is charged for every person, starting at US$60 for a stay of up to 90 days, about Rs 16,609. A business ETA costs US$30. Enter your stay above to see the total for your family.

How the free ETA and extensions work

The free tourist ETA lets you stay 30 days from the date you first arrive, and you may leave and come back once within those 30 days. Children of any nationality under 12 also get the tourist ETA free for 30 days.

A short visit can be stretched to 270 days from arrival, in three steps: 60 more days at the first extension, then 90 days at the second and at the third. Each step has its own fee for Pakistani passports, and children pay it too:

  • days 31 to 90: US$60
  • days 91 to 180: US$150
  • days 181 to 270: US$200

You apply for an extension after arriving, at the visa section of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Battaramulla or through its online visit visa extension service. A business visit follows its own scale: US$100 up to day 90 and US$200 up to day 180.

Worked examples

A family of four on a 10-day holiday

Two parents and two children aged 8 and 5 stay 10 days. All four tourist ETAs are free, so the visa cost is Rs 0.

The same family staying six weeks

At 45 days each person needs the first extension: 4 x US$60 = US$240, about Rs 66,437.

A student visiting relatives for four months

A 120-day stay passes two bands: US$60 + US$150 = US$210, about Rs 58,132.

A trader on a business trip

A business ETA for a 20-day trip costs US$30, about Rs 8,305. Staying 60 days adds the business extension: US$130 in all.

Applying for the ETA from Pakistan

Apply on the official Sri Lanka ETA website, or through a Sri Lankan mission, and keep the approval to show at check-in and on arrival. The immigration notice says every foreign national, Pakistanis included, must obtain an ETA before arriving in Sri Lanka, so do not rely on getting one at the airport.

The free ETA covers tourism only. Fees paid before 25 May 2026 were not refunded when the scheme started. Card payments online for a business ETA or an extension carry the convenience fee your bank charges on the payment page.

Sri Lanka visa fee questions

What is the Sri Lanka visa fee for Pakistani passport holders?

Nothing for a tourist visit of up to 30 days. From 25 May 2026 Pakistani nationals get the tourist ETA free of charge, with a double entry. A business ETA costs US$30, about Rs 8,305.

How much is the Sri Lanka visa extension fee for Pakistani?

US$60 per person to extend up to 90 days from arrival, US$150 for days 91 to 180 and US$200 for days 181 to 270. A stay of 200 days pays all three, US$410 per person.

Do children pay for a Sri Lanka visa?

Not for the first 30 days. Children under 12 of any nationality get a free tourist ETA, and Pakistani children aged 12 or over are covered by the free scheme. If the stay goes past 30 days, each child pays the same extension fee as an adult.

Can Pakistanis get a Sri Lanka visa on arrival?

Apply online before you fly. The Department of Immigration and Emigration says all foreign nationals, including those of the 40 free-visa countries, must obtain an ETA before arrival. For Pakistani tourists the ETA itself costs nothing.

What is the fine for overstaying in Sri Lanka?

Leaving within 7 days after the visa ends costs only the visa fee due. An overstay of 8 to 14 days adds a US$250 penalty, and more than 14 days adds US$500, on top of the visa fee. Both run from your arrival date, under the Gazette notice of 21 June 2023.

Is the Sri Lanka business visa free for Pakistanis?

No. The free scheme covers the tourist ETA only. Pakistanis pay US$30 for a 30-day multiple entry business ETA, the South Asian rate, and US$100 to extend a business visit up to 90 days.
