Validity and when to renew
A Punjab licence is issued for 1 to 5 years, and you choose the period again at renewal. Sindh renews for 3 or 5 years. Islamabad charges one flat renewal fee.
- Before expiry or within a month: the plain renewal fee. Lahore police describe 30 days after expiry as the grace period.
- 1 to 3 months late: half a year's fee as a fine, Rs 675 for a car.
- 3 months to 1 year late: one year's fee, Rs 1,350 for a car.
- 1 year or more late: two and a half years' fee, Rs 3,375 for a car. City Traffic Police Lahore lists this as a fine per year, so a licence that lapsed two or more years ago can cost more.
- More than 3 years late: the Motor Vehicles Ordinance lets the licensing authority refuse renewal until you pass the driving test again.
If you have lost the original licence, DLIMS adds the duplicate fee to the renewal, Rs 150 for a car.
